26 year old man in Croyden has been shot and killed in the riots, and a young boy was helped to his feet and then mugged. Respect for humanity is fading.
I agree. I can imagine this being one of many "evidences" a racist person use to justify their preconcieved notion. It wouldn't matter to them that it just happens to be a coincidence.
Link: That picture is awesome. Also, police have been warning people in my town that we might be hit with it tonight. :/
^ That's awful Eunoia. I hope it doesn't. It is mostly focused on the South. Any of you folks want to come to my place here in Northumberland for safety there is a nearby ruined Castle you can all sleep in.
@ Lemmy and Eunoie- I didn't make it, just found it on Yahoo Images and felt it was fitting for this thread. Is this really a riot anymore? If its spreading like this, it's sounding more like a rebellion.
Take your pick. We are practically tripping over them up here. Within a 20 mile radius there are at least 7 castles.
Never been a riot apart from the first night. Since then it's just been the scum of society going out committing criminal damage and theft. It's just base lawlessness. I've seen images of people having the clothes taken from off their backs because the perpetrators think they can do that. I'm not going out tonight. I was planning on heading out to Stoke to watch Town play, but I'm not sure it'll be on (police needed elsewhere, and Port Vale-Town has been a fixture with trouble in the past - when Stoke City 'fans' have been the cause of trouble, mostly), and I don't fancy getting caught up in any trouble. Thinking twice about heading out this aft, got a text off someone warning of potential trouble in Huddersfield
All met police leave is cancelled and the PM is saying he'll do everything possible to restore order.
My family unit is tired of the jokes. I think in dire situations we need someone who will annoy us to death with horrible jokes. However, I'm under the impression laughter makes a tense situation less tense and helps with the fear too.
It is sad to hear about all the riots, and I think it is bizarre and scary that the riots got to this level. It's all destruction and danger, and, as I understand it, it's mainly because of how the police force has been treating citizens (I think someone mentioned a boy was shot, and then they were rough with a woman who was protesting which just made it worse). I have heard about riots in and around Los Angeles this past week too. A homeless man was stomped to death by six Fullerton policemen (an LA suburb). He allegedly had been burglarizing cars in the area and punched an officer while resisting arrest. Still, there is no sane reason for hogtying a man and stomping his face in until he died (it was caught on a surveillance tape). I've heard that he was crying that he was sorry and screaming for God and for his father before he died. You will feel sick if you see images of the poor man's face. And then there were the riots outside the Chinese Theater about a week ago; a well known DJ was throwing a block party --he had permits for everything, but LAPD wasn't prepared for the amount of people. No one was acting disorderly (at first); it was just the amount of people was disrupting traffic flow. When the crowd refused to disperse (and a few apparently were rude to police and in the officers' defense a very few people were supposedly jumping on the police cars), police starting firing plastic bullets at the crowd to make them disperse. No one died, but really... There's no other option but to shoot at citizens in order to get them to disperse? And don't get me started on the French police brutality. It's one of the main reasons I went to Paris two years ago. I heard some really revolting stories told by some very young children. I wasn't there at the time of a massive riot, but there were some, and the stories were just horrible. I don't know. I really don't know a great deal about the riots in the London area right now except that they were spurred by police brutality and are spreading into more cities and towns. I'm totally confused about this joke of a Prime Minister though. He's really on holiday while the country's capital is burning to the ground? All I wonder is if now that we are catching all this brutality on camera, maybe something will change in the police force, now that they know they cant get away with it as much anymore? One can only hope.
