    ANNOUNCEMENT
UPDATE: Please read on to the post below for a thought on a new solution. Thank you!

Please read and 'like' so I can know you read this!
I am so grateful everyone here loves writing for this roleplay. However, I am going to gently remind everyone the word maximum is 700 words. I have noticed some posts are far longer than that and I think it is best to rein it in early.

Like I said before, I am so glad everyone is having a good time.

The reason for the word limit is so everyone has a chance to write 'that cool scene' or 'event'. I understand wanting to write your main character's big scenes- like Katara learning Barnabas is her dad. If you do, just ask as arrangements can be made and I am sure everyone here will understand.

But this is a gentle reminder that posts are a maximum 700 words in your word processor.

I'm going to be 100% honest in saying that's a major disappointment. Not trying to be confrontational, but with a week gap in between for a lot of posts, or ines like mine that are more loaded on descriptions than just dialogue that seems pretty small. I'll follow rules, but that's just how I feel.

I completely understand your feelings on this. I know my own writing is description-heavy as well and I also enjoy every one's writing style.

One solution we have is a vote to raise the word-limit so everyone is more free to write in detail.

    Any thoughts?

Because the rules as they are were made so everyone had a chance to write that big scene, etc. I know I try to stick by the limit and I am sure others are as well. The main thing is that I want it to be fair for everyone.

So I am willing to debate the max-word length and hold a vote. I am merely stating at the moment is there is has been a lot of inching past the word limits.

    @ps102, @Louanne Learning, @SoulFire, and @EFMingo :

Okay, after thinking this over, I want to propose RAISING the word limit to 1,000. Because this will help solve style-differences and the current amount of characters we have in the story. With so many different people in a scene, the word count is naturally going to go up and I think accommodating for these variables would benefit us all.

Please give your thoughts. I am willing to listen to any and all feedback.

    Thank you!

I've been thinking about requesting that and maybe even more. My writing always tends to lean on the longer side, which is why I struggle with Flash so much.

I think I can make do with 1k words though. But if anyone thinks a longer limit is a good idea, now is the time to suggest it.

And I am certainly guilty of writing past the limit. I do apologize for that.

I can also completely understand the need for these limits. It's to stop people like me from writing 3k word scenes, lol.

Okay, so I am going to open the floor to suggestions for a new maximum. I want it to be something doable, not so time consuming enough we all get too perfectionistic to write. Also the right length so no one feels left out for 'not writing 50000K words' a post. I know I am very competitive.

So, I would suggest a 1,5ooK hard max.

Like ANYTHING over 1,550K I would ask to be chopped. That's what I mean by a HARD max. Actively putting the words in my word processor. (Scrivener) to make sure it is under the limit. I put that extra 50 in to assure people can finish their thoughts and for general number discrepancy.

Also remember that the turn time of 7 days will not be changing. So, it's about how much you feel you are able to write.

I support this. But keep the minimum at 300. (Sometimes less is more!)

    Good to know your thoughts.

So, right now the majority proposes raising the word limit to 1,500K hard max. I am going to wait for @EFMingo's input and then if he also is in agreement, I will change the rules. With a choice like this, I want to make sure everyone is on board.

Okay, I updated the character index and I am trying to remember WHO created Hemios. I put down Ps102, but I THINK it was Louanne?

Could @Louanne Learning and @ps102 remind me? Because I THINK it was Louanne, because she is also writing Baranbas. But this thread is getting TOO long and I'm lost.

@EFMingo might be held up by travel the weather or something. Apparently there is a huge storm. I will give you today to either post or skip your turn.

Since my turn is up next, if EFMingo wants it, I can 'donate' some of my days-left-to-post so he gets more time to complete the post. It sounded like he was going to post something really exciting.

That way, the roleplay technically doesn't get held more than the expected time frame.

That works! I will just deduct the time from your turn beginning tomorrow. (So it's fair. I know EFMingo's post was technically due Sunday.) In the meantime, I think we need to come up with a solid system so the game stalls out less, but also takes people's real lives into account.

I am wondering if we should just let the next person give the other their turn in whole. (So, we don't have deductions to make, etc.) So, for example, if I was late with a post, Soulfire could say, 'take my turn' and that would give me an flat extra 7 days.

I would love feedback on this idea, please.

I'm thinking we don't need to be rigid on deadlines, especially if the next poster had indicated they are working on their post, and it is coming.

I agree with this sentiment, but I know from other roleplays I have been in on various sites, whole stories can stall out. I also want to make sure that everyone else who is able to write has a turn as well and isn't just waiting. That was why I created the 7 day rule, which I felt was reasonable.

Yeah, EFMingo hasn't been on the site since his last post, so I suspect he is busy. I'm on board with waiting for his post since he seemed really excited about it.

Agreed. He seemed excited, so I am going to let him post it. Because I know what it's like to work on something and then not have it pay off. Besides, this whole roleplay thing is for fun! :)

Agreed. I don't want people to be super-stressed about any of this. It's meant to be fun.

I'm also fine with the seven day rule.

A potential improvement could be a voluntary skip. If the poster knows that the week will be busy and they can't make it, they can volunteer to skip so 7 days without a post don't pass needlessly.

People can use that as they wish. It can technically already be done but this being 'out there' raises some awareness, so to speak.

I like the idea of a voluntary skip, because it is then in the author's hands. So, we don't have any sadness of writing gone to waste. That's the thing I am worried about. I would hate to skip someone who wrote their heart out, but I also need to balance the needs of the other players. Because I just want everyone to have a good time.

How many days are left on my turn? I think you said that EFMingo had until Sunday to post, but we extended it to Monday. It's Thursday tomorrow, so are there four days left?

I'm asking because EFMingo hasn't logged in at all so he likely doesn't even know that I'm 'donating' days to him.

I really want to write a post as well so Friday will be the last day. After that, I'll use my two remaining days (Saturday & Sunday) to write a post. Is everyone happy with that?
