I think it went from - "just another character" to "woahhhhh niiiiiice"...

Hey, I'm into brunettes, don't judge bro.

My first response from my informal poll is from my brother, who simply said: "It's a western."

No judgements. I went from "she's pretty" to "she's awesome!"

Firefly is more of a western than Star Wars.

I didn't even get the pretty -- I think my memory was of her (hair) buns and how formal / severe they made her look.

Irrelevent to the point. We're talking about Star Wars and what genre it fits best in. (Assuming, of course, that it must be exclusive to one genre.)

So far, I have two for fantasy, one for "science fantasy" and two for western. My father-in-law who has a degree in film something or other (can't remember which, he doesn't work in the field anymore) had this to say: "It's a remake of Japanese samurai films. Which are remakes of westerns. I agree with your brother."

This is not turning out how I expected so far. *slides family under a microscope for further investigation*

I was just thinking that without the Jedi/Sith, Star Wars bears a striking resemblance to the universe of the Foundation Series. :)

I completely agree. I am a literary fiction writer but I bring in themes of romance and even comedy/humour/satire into my work. I'm writing a 100000-word-strong novel based in the sixties right now, which is ultimately literary fiction but is mixed in with other genres as I write. This is simply because i feel that making it an interesting read is much more important than sticking to a specific genre. After all, genres are only abstract concepts, and can be tailored to fit our needs.
