Because animals don't judge. They are your constant companion, unconditionally (unless you abuse them of course) who depend on you and don't care what you look like. Free and widely available rehab for semicolon addicts. It's not our fault; it just feels so good when the penny drops and you finally understand their use, and then you realise just how versatile they are and suddenly... geez, I dunno, it's like you don't even want to use any other punctuation marks if you can avoid it. I mean, ellipses are amazing and all, but tell me you wouldn't trade all the ellipses in the world for just one more semicolon. And then there's the rush of superiority you get when you see someone misuse one! There's just no end to it. (ETA: I suppose that's technically more of a policy than a law...) If you had to lose a physical sense (taste, smell, sight, hearing, touch, proprioception, etc) that you currently have, which would you choose?
