    Bad Reputation

Discussion in 'Announcements' started by Raven, Dec 10, 2007.

Can I just say when giving Bad reputation can you please give a valid reason because its not very pleasant receiving Bad reputation without a reason and on a post that does not deserve bad reputation. Today alone three people have contacted me asking why and who has been giving them Bad reputation. I looked at the posts the Bad Rep was given and they certainly didn't deserve any bad rep.

Its your choice to Give Negative Rep But please give it for the right reasons and at least do the honour of explaining in that little rep box the reason you have given bad rep. Its wrong and spiteful to give bad rep just because you can.

As mods we know who is giving bad rep if we look once alerted. So I know who you are. Give it for the right reasons you don't have to give your name but give a valid reason.

To those of you who have receive Bad rep for unfair reasons all I can do is apologise. Alert myself or any of the Mods if you feel its unjust and we'll look at the post and if we agree We will act.

    ~Raven.

I got bad reputation a while ago (a long while ago) for this post:

Writing Forums - View Single Post - Windows Vista Ultimate.

Never figured out why. Never really cared all that much. But while we're on the subject...

Heh, must have just been the thread. Though as I said, I don't care. It would just be nice if people explained things like that.

Definitely sounds like some personal grudges (or just stupidity) to me as well. I second what Raven said, lets try and keep things fair and give reasons.

that's why i don't think it's a good idea to even have a system of anonymous 'rep'-giving... it's the forum equivalent of being tried, judged and condemned while being denied the right to face your accuser...

why is such a blatanly unfair redundancy needed anyway, when if one wants to either compliment or complain about a poster, it can and should be done [as it frequently is] out in the clear light of day in the thread itself, not with a cowardly shot in the dark, wearing an identity-hiding ski mask...

Actually, complaints should be handled through the moderators, not argued in the open forum.

If we were to see negative rep points handed out in large numbers, I think it likely that the system would be a candidate for removal. Most people here use the rep system to hand out kudos, not to throw spitballs.

And if we find someone is widely handing out negative rep to be spiteful, we will handle that as well.

Why not just make it a kudos system?

I'm not sure if that's possible without hacking vBulletin.

What's the difference between reputation and kudos?

What's the problem with hacking vBulletin? Members do it all the time to add new features.

I think kudos is similar to karma, where you give a user a point and comment for something positive. There's no option for negative karma. That's just what I observed on another forum so it's probably wrong.

That would seem to solve the problem. Of course, people not behaving like schoolchildren would also solve the problem.

lol well that certainly took it all off topic now didn't it :p

Simple fact is that we can't change what people have done and hopefully with this post they decide not to do it again.

We have to give people a chance to be a decent human being...and Banzai I got bad rep for the same thread as you. I laughed about it cause I thought it was hilarious to be honest.

But seriously we can't take the bad rep away, but we can get over it. I know that sounds harsh but it is fact.

......Off topic alright. Waay off topic.

Anyways, I think I got a bad rep once for having a go at someone that was constantly refferring to Torana's underwear. He said disgusting! I laugh whenever I see it and roll my eyes.

I second that... was definitely off topic... and disturbing :p

I think to be honest we just need to be vigilant against this sort of behaviour and teach our few immature members of the group that they're not going to be tolerated.

the suggestion to make it a kudos-only thing is a good one, imo... would give all a positive slant, leave the negative stuff for pms to sort out, as our mod notes it should be, anyway... so, what do you say, boss?... is there any good reason it can't be made a kudos-only option?

    Because we've never needed one.

Remember this if someone is going to be spiteful and bare silly little grudges they will find another way.

The rep system has never been a problem until now. Before that is was in PMs my drift they will find away to ruin things.

    What can we do?
    Simple answer
There is this force to be reckoned with and We are the Super Moderators.

    Myself
    Cogito
    Kit603
    ILTBY
    Sapphire.

Report things to us and we will act upon those reported things we always do. Those of you who know me know I will act and I will punish
Those of you who Know Cogito also Know this.
Kit603 has always been on hand to help she has always looked into complaints
Sapphire has worked here for sometime now
And ILTBY is here now and I can assure you she will also act.

The problem isn't the rep points it never was. Its the Spiteful Members we have. But remember we are here to prevent that. Unless you tell us we are not mind readers.

I would say the rep system should remain in place changing it is giving in to those that ruin it.

After all said and done we are a writing forum not a reputation giving forum.

    Thanks
