I hate when people spew rhetoric like that. We are not "giving in" to anyone, simply realizing the fact some people may do childish things and there is a very easy way of avoiding the issue completely. Besides, as it was previously mentioned, disputes should be settled with words; and differences in opinions need not carry any further weight than the words spoken. The points should be there to recognize members for achievements, to honor them. Perhaps a similar system could be used solely by admins for accumulating wins in our contests? Moreover, we are a "reputation-giving forum". While this may not be a primary focus in any means, we do partake in the act. As such, I believe it fair game that it is looked at and improved to the best of our individual abilities. adamant. zero-eight.
Then in that case the best thing if you beleive in that is post in suggestions or simply PM (Daniel) Lpspider. He welcomes all suggestions. I can't say fairer than that.
karma is a feature of a different forum engine. Hacking means someone has to do the programming, and it doesn't seem to be that huge a priority. We don't really have a problem, just the occasional annoyance. I don't know for a fact whether programming would be necessary. I only indicated that it MIGHT be. If it's easy to do, I'm all in favor of it. But if it's difficult, it's not worth it.
Seriously I don't see the big coffufal. We came here to write not give rep points. You can give me all the bad rep points in the world and I'd still come here and post. Why? Because as Hulls Raven has stated. "WE ARE A WRITING FORUM!" Simple as that. As for kudos, I've seen them on a few sites now and they have been removed farily quickly. You can also give bad kudos as well. But I am sure that you are able to remove peoples options to use rep and/kudos individually. If you see someone abusing those things then just stop them from being able to use them in the future. If you have problems with anything speak with one of the members of staff. It is the only way to get problems sorted out.
Well if it's for something as trivial as this then I don't see the point in wasting time doing the programming. In a perfect world, a kind person would've already offered this hack on the vBulletin forum. Oh well. I would actually prefer the Reputation system remains as it is to be honest.
I have 28 reputation points. How did I get those? Is there one point for each time someone gives a reputation?
I think the amount of points you receive when you get some rep changes according to the rep of the person giving it to you.
Each person has a different amount of points they give, the quantity is based upon the number of points they have. From what I've gathered, I assume it is your post rate divided by 100. So, if you have 28 points and only one person gave you a positive rep, that person has approximately 2,800 posts. I haven't been able to test if it rounds up yet.
Erm... Sorry chocolate bear, but I don't think that's right. I think everyone starts with 25 rep points, and the amount you can give does depend on post count, but not in the way you said. I'm fairly sure you can give one extra rep point for every 500 posts, and one extra rep point for every 100 rep points you have. I'm not sure where the rep-giving threshold is, but there must be one as new members can only give grey rep (worth zero points). Perhaps our imperious leader could enlighten us on this matter.
Its good as it is, and Daniel hasn't decided other wise. The main thing is if you give neg rep don't do it on spite do it because you feel strongly and give a reason. Or we will act on the spiteful. I can't say fairer than that. Plus since posting this thread I have had no reports of Bad rep given recently.
I currently have 16 green, 1 red, and 1 grey totaling as 122 points - I believe your calculations are trumped. When new members finally reach 100 posts, they can finally give rep. Let's try to find a newcomer to experiment on.
Or we could be all good puppies and not retaliate when we are grumpy? how many rep points do I give out?
There are a number of factors in how many rep points you give at a time. everyone starts at +20. Your donor ability depends on the number of posts you have and your own rep level, and I think there is another factor or two as well.
