I made a topic a while after we got engaged, since we met each other on this wonderful site and it was such a cool story. Congrats! That's so exciting. My husband and I met through a message board too, I actually immigrated to Canada to be with him. We're going on nine years of marriage and have two beautiful daughters.
How funny. I'm in the process of immigrating to Canada because I wanted to be with him. Haha. In Toronto, actually. Go figure that. Thanks everyone!
That is funny. Let me know if you need any tips/advice/help on the whole immigration process. I just had to renew my permanent residency actually, and will be going for my full citizenship once I get around to filling out the forms (which are a TON easier than the initial immigration forms). One piece of advice is to start bringing your stuff up now if you can. I lived in Canada while my immigration paperwork was processing, which is normal...but what I didn't know is that I wasn't allowed to cross the border while it was in process. I also wasn't allowed to move my belongings up while it was in process either, so for a year and a half everything that I owned minus what initially fit in my car was in storage in the States. It SUCKED. I was able to cross the border once, to come down for a funeral, but even then they told me I could still be turned away trying to come back in to Canada.
