If you are reading this, then you are too close to your screen. Ah, you smiled... If you didn't, force one. Please. I am Mordred. I am an avid reader and I have learned to enjoy my Nook as much as I enjoy holding on to the real thing. The smell of an old, musty, well-read book is a wonderful experience. But it would be hard pressed to trump the backlighting of an LCD screen. Reading in the dark is always nice. I guess if my Nook smelled like the aforementioned book, I would be even happier. Oh joy, memories release endorphins... endorphins make yo-- Ah, but I digress. I have various and sundry interests... Medieval history, NFL football, reading, science fiction, PPDRPG's, movies and most of all fantasy. When I am not pursuing these things, I am spending my time writing. When I am not writing, I am spending times with my wife, seven kids and four grandchildren. When I am not doing any of these things, I am sleeping. Does the light in the refrigerator really turn off when you close the door? I asked my cat, but all he says is, "Meow." I've written several full world history timelines for the fantasy genre, game manuals, poetry, developing characters, creating maps (I love name creation), etc... with all this behind me, and my wife giving me encouragement, I dove into the world of creative writing in the fantasy genre. Story outline created, characters fleshed out with their various personalities, strengths and weaknesses, world created (see my bio for the link to the map of Argontath). Several chapters have been written and I am thoroughly entrenched in the storyline. Looking at around 40 chapters of 3000 words each. The title of the book, "When the Silent Hand Falls." I look forward to reading everyone's sweat and tears and making comment and conversation with you all. Until that time. Respectfully, ~Mordred
Welcome to Writing Forums, Mordred! I hope you find what you're looking for here, whatever your interests in writing. This forum aims to provide the best workshopping resources on the internet, and to that end we have a few rules which you should familiarise yourself with before you get stuck in. The main section of the site is the Writing Workshop, where members can post their writing in order to receive critique of their work. However, before we allow members to post their work, they must have met some basic requirments. Firstly, you must have been a member for fourteen days, and have made twenty posts on the forum overall (please note, posts in Word Games do not count towards this). This is so that members, when they post their work, have familiarised themselves with the forums and contributed to them (as well as hopefully learned something for themselves). Secondly, members must provide two constructive reviews of other people's work for each piece of their own that they wish to post. This is because we believe that the focus of workshopping should be equally upon giving reviews as receiving them, as they allow a writer to practice and improve their editing skills, which they can then apply to their own writing. Beyond the Writing Workshop, you will find that we have extensive forums for discussion of aspects of writing, as well as a community area for general discussion. We also run periodic short story and poetry contests, which are good for challenging yourself and expanding your skills. If you have any questions or problems, then the moderators (myself and Cogito) should be your first port of call. Any technical problems with the site itself should be directed to Daniel, the site administrator and owner. I would recommend you have a look over the rules so that you know what to expect, and what is expected. But aside from that, I hope you enjoy your time here. Banzai
An open letter to Mordred, a new member of WritingForums.org, I would like to welcome you to the forums, and as, thankfully, Banzai has already made you aware of the rules, I would like to point out one in particular which you are, no doubt unwittingly, breaking. In keeping with a recent thread on quote attribution, which could not possibly have been caused by you as you did not exist as a member of the forum at the time of its creation, I would like to let you know that, after seeing your signature and wondering what it meant, I found that it was a quote from the Addams family film, and it needs to be attributed that way. Because of this recent thread, in which I outlined my view quite fully I think, I would not like you, as a new member, to cop any flak for breaking the forum rules right after joining. I am sure that I am not the only person here (particularly of young age) who is not familiar with the Addams family, though you can be sure that I am aware of what the Addams family is (they're mobsters, right? (just kidding)). Therefore, I think it is in your best interest to attribute the origin of that quote to the Addams family (as finding the writer of the original quote may be difficult, since credits aren't often that specific). Again, welcome to the forums. I hope you enjoy it here, and I hope you have luck with your novel. --cruciFICTION
Thank you for the welcome and also for pointing out the need to give credit where credit is due. My signature has been updated. Sincere apologies to the Addams Family as I would rather be an object of their affection and not a victim of their affliction. ~Mordred
