This is a little late as i've already been posting for a few days, but here goes anyway: Haiiii everybody! I've always had a passion for creative writing, but only relatively recently started doing something about it. I began my first (and only) novel 2 years ago, writing in my free time after work and during the weekends, and have around 83,000 words down. I'm not sure how long it'll turn out to be, and i'm not really thinking about how long it's going to take to finish haha! Willful ignorance is the sweetest sort, in my opinion My ambition is to write professionally. I have no idea whether this is realistic, but i've always been a "nothing ventured, nothing gained" sort of bloke
Hi! I've already reviewed the piece you posted, but hey, anyway. Now I'm trying to figure out a nickname for you... your SN just doesn't abbreviate neatly... >.< Mayhaps, Flightless? Meh. Forgive me and my crazy ways. Great to have you here.
Thank you for the review (I plan on returning the favour first thing tomorrow, while skiving work), and the welcome! If you can believe it, this SN is actually the product of the IGN websites crazy-screen-name-generator-thingy (this is a technical term, you understand), which pops up with suggestions if you pick one which is already taken. I think i originally chose "foofaraw" simply because i rather like the word! Although I think nicknames should probably be chosen by those who're using them, rather than those who's names they replace, so Flightless it is And "crazy ways" are the best sorts of "ways" in my experience!
Hello Flightless, Welcome to the Writing Forums. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hi Cogito! Thanks for the warm welcome, and advice. Not to worry - I've been doing the "forum" thing for a great many years, and understand that the objective is to build a community rather than provide a reviewing service for passers by. It is that community i am interested in participating in and contributing to I've already had a read through the reviewing thread, and i agree with the sentiment entirely I have already posted some of my own work though, and I apologise if that was innapropriately premature.
Thanks everyone Oh and Lucy; I might pester you for a review or something in the future, provided that falls within the "anything" bracket
Thanks kit! Tell me, as a "super" moderator, are you more or less super than Micheal Knight's famous Trans Am? (I apologise unreservedly for that - i just couldn't help myself) Also, I have another Einstein quote if you're intersted: "When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity." That's always been one of my faves
Oh, that would be absolutely wonderful. I would love to look through your account. I believe I will find a few pictures of trees as well.
