http://www.imdb.com/news/ni56087514/?ref_=hm_nw_tp_t1 I had to cringe slightly when I first heard. What do you think, can Ben pull it off in the upcoming Batman-Superman movie?
I knew Christian Bale would never be a part of the Batman/Superman movie, but I still wish he was. Ben Affleck isn't dark enough to play Batman but we'll see.
I don't really see Ben Affleck as a superhero, rather some sort of criminal anti-hero with sociopathic tendencies. Think The Town but with more introspection.
I remember when Affleck played Daredevil. One of the reviews (I forget which) said, "In the comic books, Daredevil is a character who seethes with inner torment. Well, there isn't an actor in Hollywood who seethes with inner torment less than Ben Affleck." Batman seethes with inner torment. I predict about the same response to this film as Daredevil got, which is to say, tepid at best.
He's more of a smooth talker so I don't know how he's going to sound intimidating unless he tries to gargle marbles like Bale did, which was awful. The thing is, Batman and Superman are opposite in terms of tone. Since it's primarily a Man of Steel sequel, I don't think they want to go the dark and gritty route like the Nolan movies. They probably want to keep the story and atmosphere uplifting and heroic without a focus on inner turmoil. Maybe that's why Ben was cast. He won't have to act all dark and tormented, since he can't do it, and he'll attract an audience.
I haven't seen "The Dark Knight Rises" and won't watch the latest cash grab. However, I'm still happy about this. With any luck, Affleck will make a fortune, and can then focus his energy on directing quality films. People saying he isn't qualified severely overestimate the amount of acting talent required for that role.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Seriously, I knew it was being announced soon, but...Affleck? He is really not right for the part, and in all honesty I am at most indifferent of him, at worst dislike him. Not sure why but I do. Of course he may prove me wrong in the film, but seeing as we've been waiting for a movie like this to come along for ages, I'm very disappointed. I was hoping for Jim Caviezel. There really are no words to explain how sad I am.
I want to see Nicholas Cage as Batman. He was pretty badass in 'Ghost Rider'. Ben Affleck is going to be (another) fiasco. The best one for me so far was Michael Keaton, followed closely by Christian Bale.
I have a very hard time picturing Affleck as Batman, but I do like him and he might be able to pull it off. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Have to see the final product. People were worried about previous casting choices, and then some changed their minds afterward. I don't like the idea of a batman/superman movie to begin with, so that's a bigger hurdle for me than the choice of actor.
This was my thought as well, but when I voiced it, my son (9 y.o.) said to me (picture eye-rolling and exasperated tone, with extended voiced vowel on 'mom'), "Mom, everybody knows Superman and Batman are best friends."
I'll wait for the product. I remember the bruhaha over Michael Keaton as the Batman, and yet the finished product far exceeded all expectations, regardless of how you might judge it from today's standards. Besides, as everyone on THIS site should know, the actor isn't everything. The director's role is imprtant, a d above all there is the writing.
I love Cage, he should be in . . . everything! Otherwise, if Affleck falls through, I have a bath towel that's looking for its big break.
I don't know... Zack Snyder is a very visual director. While his style might suit Superman more or less (with the blowing up of things), he's not very good at character development/conflict/motivation which are more important for Batman. Not saying Superman doesn't need those things.. it's just that Batman should connect to the audience more b/c he's human.. So I'm basically fearing that Zack won't be able to direct Ben properly.
As a DC fan who and huge Superman fan, I know how vital the success of this movie is to the DC cinematic universe. I will wait for the product before I cast any judgments, but I do cringe a little at this casting. I think he might be able to pull off an older Bruce Wayne character, but maybe not Batman. I just don't see it. As for writing... WB has not done a great job of contracting great writers for recent DC endeavors... Nolan and Goyer wrote TDK trilogy, and most of MoS, but I worry about what they are doing with this universe. I also worry about the directing. You can't CGI everything... It won't work. MoS was great, imo, but I will say it was underwhelming in some regards. I really hope and need this movie to be amazing... 0_0
I think with all the backlash, Ben will put in a lot of effort to make a good Batman to prove people wrong. I think it's possible he can surprise us but Zack is going to have to put less focus on CGI for it to happen.
I don't care. I'm not going to see it. I'm not watching another Batman movie ever again after seeing Bale as Batman and having Nolan direct the movies. That's the movie Batman I want to remember, period. I dislike Affleck anyway and don't care if he can nowadays act. It's his face that just... I should actually post to that thread about "If it wasn't for that actor..." or something because Assleck is that actor.
*Sigh* ... It's people like this... I just can't respond... (-_- ) ( -_-) (-_- ) Why you gotta be so closed up???
@KaTrian: Assleck, hahaha I can't stand the fat-face either, but if he is a good husband to Jennifer Garner, he can stay.
