I was researching Deities of fire, because for those of you that don't know, my world will be primarily dominated by a tyrannical cult motivated by a deity of fire, when I began to ask myself the question. My story takes place in an Eastern-European country (Slavic), which led me to believe that I should choose a Slavic deity of fire, but I wasn't sure if readers would understand who that would be if the name was brought up. Essentially, my question is, should I select the proper region based Deity, at the risk of my reader not knowing who that is (could give some backstory, but it'll come some chapters in), or should I go with a more well known deity of fire (greek or norse)?
If you are basing this set on a post apocalyptic world, do countries still exist, does culture still exist? if the answer to this is no then it doesn't matter which region's deities you refer to! But even if your answer is yes, does it matter? probably not! Does it need to be a deity from a ancient culture on earth? couldn't you make one up?
Wow. Perfectly stated! I suppose some elements of culture remain, considering some people survived the "war" my story will refer to. Slavic names are still predominant in the region, so I guess I'm free to choose! Thank you! /thread
