Hi, I'm new to this site... I've not been scared off so far. I'm a young writer. Sometimes I think writing is all I know how to do. I don't know how good I am, as I'm generally far too shy to show my work to anyone who could give me proper advice. Maybe I'll post some on here, after I've settled in a bit. But I'm sure I'm not terrible, at least. There's no one in my family who really understands how obsessed I am with writing. Except for my grandma, who's an author. But in my immediate family, they just watch in amusement as I tear my hair out/smash my laptop against the wall during a common bout of writer's block. I live in New Zealand... no, we are not connected to Australia. . Anyone who knows me at school knows how unhealthily obsessed I am with writing. Actually, I think it's healthy enough, but opinions differ... I'll stop for now. Hi, again ^^
Hello Twelfth Night, Welcome to the Writing Forums. If the rest of your family have never experienced the joy of creation in writing, how could they understamd your passion with it? Unless they can relate it to a similar creative bliss. Posting your own work should not be the very first thing you do here. It is really worthwhile to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Welcome to the forum. There seems to be a good writing community in New Zealand, or at least a lot of writers who are located in New Zealand. Perhaps I should look into the place...
Thanks all ^^ Thank you Cogito, I'll take all of what you said into consideration. Yes Flashgordon, we do have alot of successful writers here, though a majority of them move to Australia... Vincent is cool. . According to my friend, I am living proof that you don't have to play the games to love the movie (I bawled my eyes out in the movie, and before it I never knew what it was, nor that there were ever PS games that came out beforehand...).
By the way, the name's Sarah if you'd prefer to call me that. Otherwise, call me any variation of Twelfth Night you wish ^^
