Hello all! I'll be a freshman in college in the fall, majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in psychology. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I'm currently working on my first novel, but most of my work is short stories. I spent the last few years in a really rigorous high school program, so I don't have that much stuff to put up for review here, but I love critiquing and reviewing, so I'll be doing a lot of that until I start polishing up some of my newer stuff. Some of my literary role models are Sylvia Plath, JD Salinger, J.R.R. Tolkien, Joseph Conrad, Kurt Vonnegut, and Chuck Palahniuk. Anyone here from the old East of the Web forums that went offline a few years ago?
Hello CI, Welcome to the Writing Forums. I've not heard of the East of the Webs forum. I visited this site a little over a year ago, liked it, and grew roots. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
companionableills, glad to have you here. College can be greatest period of growth for someone's writing and I hope you post about all of your new found ideas. I also look forward to reading your reviews.
Hi there, welcome to the forums! I'd not actually heard of that particular forum until a couple of days ago when I seem to remember somebody else mentionning it, so perhaps somebody else here has been a member there. I definitely heard it from somebody...
