hello. I need to answer the following question and it has been bugging me for the past few days. What would be a motivation to kidnap and brutally harm someone?
Revenge, jealousy, greed, religious beliefs, fear, money, politics, self-loathing, desperation, racism, perversion...I could go on! Perhaps look up some real stories online; this kind of thing happens fairly frequently.
But sure it could be anything. It seems like a really strange query. Revenge, Ambition, Greed, Psychological Illnesses etc etc etc Thats the beauty of it. It can be anything. Whats important is how you sell it.
PS. Have you read 'An Evil Cradling' by Brian Keenan? He is a teacher and writer who was kidnapped and held hostage for four years by a military group in Beiruit. The novel tells the story of his kidnapping, and the abuse and degredation he was subjected to.
It could be anything really. Could be that the person kidnapped stumbled onto something they shouldn't. Now the people who kidnap them are trying to figure out what he or she knows. It could be because he was witness to something and they want to make sure he never talks. It could be because the kidnappers are on the extreme end of some belief. Because the man that was kidnapped slept with the kidnappers wife. or. It could be that the kidnapper is one sadistic psycopath and just goes around kidnapping random people to beat to a bloody pulp. Hell it could even be his first time and having him thinking thats what he wants. But when its finally comes to torturing them he is conflicted about it.(this reminds me of a Hostel 2) It can be because the kidnapper thought it was something God would want him to do(the kidnapper is obviously mentally unstable to the extreme) It could be anything. What matters is how you write it.
