A blazing car has been crashed into the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport. It has been reported that a Cherokee Jeep with two men of Asian appearance were in the car when it smashed into the front of the airport. One of the men then emerged from the car on fire and was restrained and put out with fire extinguishers. Reports say two people have been arrested by police. Emergency services are on the scene and roads around the airport have been shut off with flights in and out of Glasgow suspended until further notice. The incident came a day after two car bomb attacks were foiled in central London. A police spokeswoman said: "Strathclyde Police would like to reassure the public that it is unknown at present if this is connected with the incidents in London as inquiries are at an early stage." She added: "However, we would ask the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police." An eyewitness, Fiona Tardy said: "I was standing next to departures, I heard a great big massive bang, and then all the folk from departures were running through arrivals. "A Land Rover or jeep had driven into the departure lounge. It was on fire, and every now and again there was a bang coming off it," she added. A spokesman for the British Airport Authority said: "At 15.11pm today a vehicle drove into a front door at the check-in area of Glasgow Airport's terminal building. "The vehicle caught fire on impact with the building and is currently outside the terminal building. A police investigation is under way and emergency crews are at the scene." Passengers are being advised not to travel to the airport until further notice, as all flight are suspended. Meanwhile, Downing Street have announced that Prime Minister Gordon Brown will chair a meeting of the Government's Cobra emergency contingencies committee later to discuss the incident. "We don't know nuthin' yet" is supposed to be reassuring? This is very unsettling. I hope they can swiftly round upall the people involved with the first two vehicles, plus any copycats.
latest is that one body is probably still in car, one person is in critical condition in hospital [reportedly was wearing some sort of 'dangerous device'] and a third in custody with just a leg injury... and the attack is definitely believed to be connected to london attempts, as the london cars came from scotland and the details of the 'bombs' are the same... oddest to me is the ineptitude of the 'bombers'... first of all, there wouldn't have been any great explosion, just a fireball, like the one at glasgow's airport... so all those nails were for nought... nice to have stupid bombers for a change, huh?...
This sounds like a job by amateurs who wanted to act like their terrorist heroes. The same thing happened in Germany a while ago. Some guys got bomb plans off the net, made a bomb that would have killed hundreds of people, and actually got it into the subway. But they decided to put more explosives into the device then the plans called for. The explosives didn't go off because it couldn't get enough air to start the combustion. I wonder how far this group will get before they're taken down.
WOW that is terrible. It really sadens me to hear about things like this going on. Why can't people put the same passion into acts of bravery and all round good deeds as they do these kinds of acts. I do hope they are all caught swiftly.
The sheer stupidity is nearly funny. Thats metal alright though. Those guys must've thought they were mad hardcore.
Well at the same time why can't governments do good deeds and not treat countries so badly and with so much ignorance. This kind of thing didn't happen here until the invasion of Iraq.
Todays wars and conflicts are conflicts between people in power. Not between nations. It's not like World War II and I where everyone in a country was in support of the war. Nowdays, it's the governments decision, when it really should be the peoples decision. Obviously that means alot of education has to be done first. Preferably from the UN. Which means much more money. But if a war can be avoided, thats a good thing right?
IN WW1 and WW2, everyone was in support of the war? Do you have a source to back that up? Apart from propoganda from dictatorships. When you say it should be the people's decision do you mean that people should vote on whether the country goes to war, and if so how could that be done, since to get the full picture sensitive information would have to be shared and so the other side would know what you were considering etc etc Also Im sure that before the war started the majority of the US population was in support of it and the British once the war had started. How could the UN educate, how could the five permanent members agree on an education, especially since China isn't a democracy?
