Not sure if this belongs here (mods please feel free to move if necessary or even useful ) but late last night I finsihed the first draft of my very first novel for children! I say first draft, but I actually tend to edit at the end of each chapter as I go along. Still, I am now putting away for a week or so whilst I work on my new book, in its infancy at present. Then I shall go back and begin seriously editing...
Congratulations! I'll be sure to have a beer in your honor tonight (I'm always looking for an excuse to drink).
Actually, because I am hoping it will turn into a series of adventures, I hinted at the next adventure in the final paragraph and completed the whole by writing: (Not) The End
Congrats! It's a good feeling, isn't it? Nowadays it's a bittersweet moment for me: we've finished around a dozen 1st drafts with KaTrian, and now I know just how much work the editing is (in our case, writing the 1st draft is perhaps 1/10 of the process of producing a marketable piece... or maybe we just suck, I haven't come to a definite conclusion yet), and knowing just how much work is still ahead after the 1st draft can be a little daunting sometimes. Then I remember it's fun and get back to work. I'll drink a protein shake tonight to honor your accomplishment.
It is the best feeling! Sometimes, because of long term health issues (paraplegic since birth; then diagnosed with slow growing, but incurable, cancer 5 yrs ago) I wondered if I would have the needed energy to complete it. But I have, and I am raring to go on the next one now, woohoo!
I want to add my congratulations and also say that I'm impressed and inspired by your perseverance. Good luck on the next draft.
Err...did you read the post where I mentioned I was paraplegic? (no offence, honest. I have a very sick sense of humour is all)
Actually there's a great comedy film around that topic, starring the great James McAvoy called Inside I'm Dancing. And I do, all the time...
A sick sense of humor is a necessary coping tool for life, imo. I have a sick sense of humor as well. I've found it works well for me.
Wow, that is awesome, congrats!^^ Next you'll get to comb through the manuscript until you're sick of it. Which is awesome in its own way I'm so sorry, it's horrible, but I so would've wanted to see Anthony Martin's face when he read that... I've been in these situations and it's awful. I've gotten so paranoid about congratulating women over their preganancy for fear of them being just fat that my friend actually got a bit miffed when I didn't say anything -- at that time I thought she had actually gotten fat! The awkwardness in the room when one decides to share their odd sense of humor in a wrong crowd... My hubby and I used to test our friend's potential boyfriends like that. Surprisingly enough the one who's stuck and she got engaged to was able to stomach it. In fact, he accidentally mock-mimicked the Indian English accent in the company of an Indian...
Hahaha oh man! I worry so much about hurting my friends' feelings on accident! That's amazing! lol I grill my friends' potential bfs too. It's fun. haha
Thanks guys! It is great to know you are all behind me (in all truth, your toes are safer back there, anyways ) I've started my next story already. This one is going to be a bit darker and grisly in places. It is for YA's and it is about Hitler's euthanasia program and the murder of hundreds of thousands of non Jewish German children because they were disabled in some way. He used the term so loosely he even murdered teens with acne, or those in foster homes. Unbelievable, and also hardly known about.
