RPMG, I think the age group should be limited to 13, which seems to be the norm at most writing fourms, not with standing permssion from a legal guardian. IMO a rating system or notice of adult language and content is sufficient. You can't put everyone in the same box. They never fit anyway. I think a writer should have the choice to have his work displayed as written. And I think a notice is enough to warn anyone of content they may find objectionable and therefore of content they may wish to avoid. Thanks for posting
Yes that sounds good actually. Something like *Warning there is adult content contained in this post, view at your own discretion.* If they don't give a warning for others I think they should be given a warning, otherwise it sounds good.
A rating system like the movies and a warning about the type of contect would work and be helpful. Some people might read an "R" rated story if it had violence but not if it had sex.
Well the point I am trying to make is that of freedom of choice. Not only for the author of a work, but also for a prospective reader. I think the writer has the right, as much to write as she sees fit, just as well as a reader has a right to be informed of the content of what they are about to read. Your point about "R" rating is well taken, however I don't see violence without say adult language. Remember how members vote, or convey their feelings on this matter to the admin may result in any such opinions becoming a policy. And like I said, I am not talking about porn here. I feel that people who want to read it, or view it can go to a web site that caters to such. I do not condone or in anyway encourage its posting here. But, adult situations as they have become to be known in the industry, are in fact not porn in many instances. In fact, much of what you see on day-time Televsion today, would have been considered porn just ten or fifteen years ago. But now is merely considered adult situations. The issue that concerns me more than anything else is that of language not adult siuations. Currently, there are no blocks on content only language. And the language censorship is what I disagree with the most. So what you are saying then is that you feel a rating or warning or both are all that is neccessary?
I'd go with a rating system. A few of my stories contain quite a lot of strong language and I wouldn't expect that to be censored on a writing forum, as long I post a warning in the title.
I cannot correct the poll now, but to be more accurate it should have read: Do you believe that you stories should be censored for adult content or language? Maybe I should have split it up into several relevant quesitons.
I say no.. just a disclaimer on the title should suffice. kids wil always look at what they're not meant to but you cover your ass anyway and say that they shouldn't.
Well, first, it's Lpspider's site, and he can do what he wishes with it. That said, my vote is "no" and I think a rating system would probably work fine.
WispWillow, Well the voting stats are to the right, and if you voted it looks like you hit no. Thanks for posting
Censorship Well after returning after a very long hiatus I happen to notice that there exist many stars. They are everywhere! I thought the issue on censorship had been settled long ago. But, I guess not. Thanks for posting, Trailer Trash
There is a minimal list of auto-censored words, and that has not changed since I joined. It only blocks certain very common words that are deemed inappropriate under the forum rules. It's generally pretty clear in context what word has been suppressed, so I think it's a decent compromise.
Should be a button for 'It don't matter'. That would be my vote. Need to know how many don't care one way or another. If 100 don't care then it doesn't affect the use of the site. Then there is no need to change even if 5,10, or 15 people vote no.
no, not in the sense of the admin changing or bleeping out parts of the material after it's posted... but i do strongly feel a warning should be made in the subject posting, so it will be seen before the thread is opened... and that there should also be specific mention made in the site rules [as there probably is] re not posting material that crosses over into porn country and that if such is posted and reported it can be removed by the admin, along with the poster being at risk of being banned, if posting material that crosses the line and refusing to take it down, when reported... or posting that kind of material again, after complying the first time... on the subject of censorship as a whole, speaking as a mom of 7 and grandmom of 18 [at last count], since we do have very young members, i'd say good judgment is needed in posting your work, but the youngsters also have to learn to exercise good judgment in determining what they should read... many stores they have access to sell stuff they shouldn't be buying, just as many sites are open to them on the web that have 'adult' material, so we should not be required to play the part of parents, who we have to hope have instilled good enough values in their kids, that they won't go where they shouldn't... and, if they do anyway, it's not our admin's responsibility to protect them, beyond having a set of rules that all members of any age need to abide by, for good taste's sake...
Vote .... Don't forget to vote your conscious about censorship. Now is the time if you would really like to see a change regarding this issue? And I say this assuming that the site administrator will go along with the majority as I have absolutely no authority to speak for LSpider as to the outcome of any poll. Thanks for the opportunity to post, Trailer Trash
Excuse me, but the poll, which is over a year old, is closed. And as the few profanity filters on the site have been there nearly as long, I really don't see any good reason to continue a stale debate on a decided issue.
