I actually thought you were a girl for a long time. Then I read a recent status post were you said "he" in reference to your yourself.
So does everyone usually. lol. I guess I am just girly? lol. Or t is my avatar, but people thought that when i have a boy avatar too
In short, Fuck yes. I like to think I'm a good-hearted guy, but I absolutely LOVE writing villains. Anyone that stirs things up. Anyone that can let go of themselves and not care. Anyone that has a reason to be bad. I have a thing for villains. I don't know if it's me being misogynist in some way... I feel like someone would be offended by it, but women are much more interesting to me. I have a first person perspective, and as I go, I feel like someone may be able to tell that a man is writing the story just from the sheer fact of what I'm putting in. It actually really bothers me. Just with what subjects come up. Yes, it deals with how their appearance influences things around them (My story in particular does), but to me, they are the beautiful gender: The gender made to look beautiful. It has nothing to do with preference, but they are made that way to entice a mate, if we're getting down to the primitive aspect of it. In the story, it's them also manipulating the norm as well. They have their own quirks as well as men, but I'm just drawn to women, and I don't want to be the watered down version of empowering them through a great story, and all that, I just want a story to progress through the eyes of the opposite gender. If anyone's confused on the matter I'll answer any questions, but it's just the way my particular story hinges a lot of the time. It's empowering, but it's also humbling, if that makes sense.
No. You don't need to be a girl to write a girl's p.o.v. Like you said it's just a person and a person is defined by experiences not just a couple of chromosomes. If you can write convincing experiences and at the bare minimum describe their physiology accurately you're fine.
You're quite gentle and negotiable and stuff like that. I guess you just come of as a little effeminate. And you do have multiple avatars you've used that are girls, so I just assumed.
I'm a girl, but I feel much more comfortable writing from a males perspective. I don't really know why.
Lol personally I'm indifferent on the "prefer" to write front. The only time I actively feel the need to ask a girl anything is in terms of pleasure. I know what it feels like on a dude but I mean I kinda dont have the gaping treasure trove down below sooo that makes writing a female p.o.v a little difficult. But eh. I'm also of a mindset that doesn't particularly care about gender roles so a lot of things I watch or do would probably be considered stereotypically girly.
I got art of one of my strongest characters. So here ya go everyone. Stare into the eyes of your judgement! Well, actually these are her normal eyes. When she wants to though, she can unleash her aura and unlock her full power! Which one of her added benefits is that she can see your soul, which can reveal to her everything about you from your feelings, your intentions and even your physical actions before you do them. Yes, she could see that you are about to stand before you even do it. Few characters in my world have survived seeing her true eyes.
Pffft two can play that game. I'll see your Magical Queen and raise you.... a pilot's eye. http://droolyjoolee.deviantart.com/art/Eye-597924669 (he looks pissed--he's not. just seeing one eye can kinda look misleading with anyone.) ps---thanks for the drawing prompt! I need those.
I use to draw characters but now i think it's a waste of time when i can just write the description of them down on paper. Drawing people is another story, but drawing my own characters? I don't really see the point in that unless it's a manga, comic or graphic novel. But that's just me, other writers get inspired and work differently . I'm not insulting anyone who does draw their characters, i actually find it cool. But at a personal standpoint, i wouldn't bother unless it's some sort of animated project.
It helps me to visualize actors in the roles of my characters. That's not to say they're completely modeled after them, but I try and use relatively obscure actors and write down a description of them that I can then apply to my people. For example, Iain Glen (Jorah from Game of Thrones) is who I use to describe an embattled Senator in one of my WIPs. I also use a lot of side characters from Dexter and from Walking Dead. This allows me to visualize them as actual people since I can't draw worth crap. xD
Now I want to ask you things like who you would cast for a particular character because I completely fair with real life visualations and have no knowledge of actors. Would you be against me doing this?
Go for it! If there's a way to message privately, I'd be more than willing. EDIT: No idea how to quote, but this is to @GuardianWynn
Easiest way to quote is to click reply under that users post. Would you prefer PM or is okay fine? Since you could post the pic of the actress/actor. Ya know?
Okay. Here goes. Young, so 20's. Fiery spirit(has fire magic) is a girl but a tom-boy to a harsh degree. She is a soldier and very harsh. The last time I wrote her in a scene she murdered a man. He tried to kill her, so she isn't evil. I am going to let that one piece of dialogue try and sell her character. WARNING CURSES WILL BE USED. "Mercy? You bitch. This is a death battle, we both knew this when it started. Twenty minutes ago when I was losing you weren't asking me for mercy and don't you dare lie and pretend you would have granted it. So all you did by asking is prove you are a dickless bastard. So I have a tip for ya. In the next life, grow a dick or stop acting like you got one." She broke his neck. I have a picture of her, but I thought it would be funnier to see your actor choice and then reveal the picture to see how close they seem.
Interesting. The immediate image in my mind was Julia Stiles, who was on Dexter for a season. Something about her seems to be determined or otherwise harsh. I think it's her constant scowl. The only images I can find of her are in street clothes, but I can definitely see her wearing fatigues or whatever your era-equivalent is. How'd I do?
It appears I got the scowl correct xD Though that probably was the easiest part. I will say, brunette seems to fit the image better, but for the life of me I couldn't think of a fitting brunette (Ali Larter from Heroes was another consideration, but she's blonde too). Hair is short, fitting tomboy. I went with a low bun, which seems somewhat militaristic to me. I'll give myself a 6. LOL Might I add, it's very cool that you have pictures drawn for your characters based on your descriptions, not vice versa. I usually need a face first before I can describe anything more than generically. THis was a fun little exercise!
Hair color is not important and style is easily fixed and also not important. It isn't like the actress is less qualified to play the role based on those factors. Also thanks I love my character designs. I used to suck at them but practice helps. I got another one for ya. Tragic past turned a normal girl into a soldier, but one that while she may hold a straight face and do want needs to be done is just scared the world won't accept her if she cries. She so badly wants to cry, but she is afraid of what she will become if she lets go of the strength being a solider has given her. Has water magic. In a sense she is a furious storm beneath her calm surface. To make it fair. A line to best describe her. In response to a man that died by her. "You jerk. As if I didn't have enough blood on my hands already. I guess it is a draw because we both lost. For what it is worth, I am sorry."
Immediate thought is Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark for any GOT fans). This picture is exactly what I think of. Stoic, yet her eyes betray the true "storm."
