What do you think? Can a character be nice in general but snarky on occasion? Can he maintain a calm facade around most people but harbor an underlying well of anger towards certain individuals? Can she be focused on a goal but at the same time be ironically skeptical about the best way to reach it? And can a single character with all these traits be likable, sympathetic, and believable?
Depends on what kind of audience you have. (ex. horny teenagers who doesn't appreciate peace and tranquility or old curmudgeons hating excitement itself.)
You just described me I try to be polite, but I also try to make everything funny, and those don't always go together as well as I think (especially when I'm taking something personally) My emotions tend to be very subdued, but even when they flare up I generally keep it to myself (unless I'm hungry. My filters tend to get messed up when I'm hungry) And I am always overthinking whether I'm doing something wrong. Nope
So you're saying you're neither likable, sympathetic, nor believable? If it's the third of these, something weird's going on in cyberspace.
These two sound like me IRL. I tend to be warm as a person but if someone says something stupid I tend to be sarcastic about calling them out. For example, a customer was adamant that he bought a product from my workplace when I started that the barcode was not in our database, after he gave me a long lecture about not ripping off customers I just asked in a deadpan tone if he was aware that his carrier bag was from our competitor. He left looking rather sheepish As for anger, yes, though everyone has a limit before they just emotionally explode. When I'm close I tend to throw something or punch the wall (I had serious anger issues during puberty).
