You haven't read a wide enough range of writing.

    Bad writing isn't relative.

No, it's a matter of judgment. And based on this statement, probably biases as well. It is, however, your right as an individual to be wrong.

Is the argument here that Twilight isn't bad, or that it is bad but 123... isn't qualified to say so?

Says the adult man who read twilight. This is a pointless debate.

Twilight is crap even if it were about a gothic vampire in Victorian England. The dialogue is atrocious, the characters are flat and dull and frankly...erugh! I've seen snippets of it online to know to avoid it at all costs.

No, 123 is actually right, even if they only read the first page. Twilight is atrociously written. You haven't read a 'wide enough range of writing' if you think otherwise.

I have no doubt I've read a substantially greater depth and breadth of literature than you have, however I know Internet misconceptions are almost as hard to remedy as religious dogma, so I doubt further discussion on that subject will be fruitful.

... I just don't even know what to say to that.

Do you know anything about me? Do you know what I do for a living? WHAT an assumption. All in defence of a book any well-read adult would cringe at the mention of. Seriously, did you mean to sound like a petulant teenager just now? Are you channelling Twilight's poorly developed characters or something?

It's based on my experience on internet forums, and the post above doesn't do a lot to persuade me to reassess. It's always possible that you're the most well-read person to post in these forum, but I don't find that very likely.

No, no, no, obviously YOU are the most well-read person here, Steerpike. You are also the most arrogant and presumptuous. Come to think of it, I enjoy characters like you in fiction! Those haughty types that think their opinion is the only one that matters? Love to hate em.

I'm not sure I've ever seen him depicted reading more than a newspaper, but I'm not an expert on his reading habits.

The most well-read person mentioned in this thread is clearly Bella Swan.

Doesn't even have to open the book. Whether he reads much or not, I assume he's a tolerably good writer, or his cover as a newspaper reporter would have been doomed to failure.

I don't think people here are judging Twilight based on 'Internet misconceptions'. That's a dismissive cop-out. You like it, fine, but I've read enough of the novel to know that the writing is utter shit. But hey, people also think The Dark Knight Rises is a good film, so.... so much for people.

I didn't say I liked it. And the internet misconceptions comment wasn't directed to opinions on Twilight, but toward the comments regarding being well-read. Your inability to properly follow the thread, which is rather simple and straightforward, doesn't inspire confidence that your exposure to literature has met with any greater level of discernment on your part.
