It was the best! I remember I had a red count Duckula lunchbox, and it had him on the front eating a big sandwich. I want it back!
I watched Reading Rainbow and Princess Guinivere and the Jewel Riders. Also spent a lot of time with Carmen Sandiego. Lambchop was a favourite. And Nickelodeon's "Rugrats." Gosh, I really miss Rugrats.
siiiigh! so, i guess i'm the only one here who grew up sans tv, but blessed with radio, which made you have to 'imagine' everything from just hearing what went on... it's a shame everyone got so hooked on seeing everything, that their imaginations didn't have the chance to grow as much as ours did, since we had to use them more...
I always listen to sport on the radio. The commentators are so much more talented describing then those fools on TV. I listened to the sooty show on the radio (online) last night as well! Oh, and as a kid i always stayed up to midnight to listen to the ABC quizshow for an hour or getting busted by mum. Great times. Actually, aat crrent, i listen to about 20hours of radio a week - TV = maybe an hour ot two a week.
Besides, what about serials at the movie theatre. Other than where you watched them, how are they so different than some TV shows?
*Begins searching Ebay* I ain't sharing. lol I still torture people with that song and I can do it with an expression that truly makes you think I have no clue that I'm being annoying. I have mastered that ... and the ability to walk down busy Manhattan streets at Christmas time pretending to be blind.
I don't think growing up with television automatically means our imaginations haven't grown as much as yours... I miss all the old super hero shows. They were so much better than superhero cartoons now...
In fact, I read an interview with a writer who had very few books as a kid, but he did watch a lot of television, and he believes it's the reason he is such a visual writer.
Teletubbies!! Teletubbies, Barney, Spongebob. I actually wish for nostalgia's sake that I could watch the first 2 again. Nowadays it's all educational and annoying. Yo Gabba Gabba, the bilingual shows like Dora and Ni-Hao Kailan. The only show that kicks @$$ is SuperWhy.
Monkey Magic (Best. Show. Ever.) Samurai Pizza Cats Hong Kong Phooey Captain Caveman Buck Rogers in the 21st Century *sigh* >_> The Incredible Hulk Wonder Woman Dr. Who And...I seem to recall thinking a show called The Kenny Everett Show was hilarious
We didn't have TV at home until 1974 but I watched it whenever I could! Off the top of my head: White Horses (loved the theme song) Skippy (always wanted to go to Australia) Lost in Space The Flashing Blade (another fantastic intro: great music and amazing filming of rider galloping, check it out on youtube) and I second Zorro! and Jacques Cousteau's documentaries from his boat the Calypso They were all so exciting or set in interesting places, so I guess it was my sense of adventure that I developed from them.
I remember this old show with this lemur and two guys, and at the end of each episode the lemur would press a button on a row of snack machines and apples and nuts and stuff would come out.
I love how cog is so desperate to let people know that he understands who created the Addams family that's TWO threads you've done this in now cog!
