I'm just curious about the work you used to do. When you say shift work, I'm thinking nurse or mill worker?

When did they stop making Ramen and quit leasing efficiency apartments?

It used to be so easy to be poor and single.

It used to be easy getting jobs also. If you just had a little know-how and enthusiasm, you were in. Now you have to go into debt with school and maybe you'll find work that pays a plumb $8.00 an hour. At least that's how it is here in Maine.

You have to go into debt before you can get a job? That's an interview question I've never heard...

All of the ditches in Maine have been dug? There are a ton of jobs out there–many that pay more than minimum wage– that require no formal education. It all depends on what you are willing to do. If you want all of the free writing time and do not want to put a lot of devotion towards a job, rent a trailer and make a menu of potato and grain based dishes. Lose the smart phone and utilize places with wi-fi instead of paying for internet. If you are not willing to sacrifice, you can't have what you want

Folks, how about toning down the personal criticism a bit.

I've never had a cell phone. I used to feel strange about it, but now it's sort of...cool.
