...in that order. Hi WF! Nice to be here. As you may gather from the thread title, I am a man of many pursuits. Hmm. What to say about me?... I enjoy a wide range of fiction and non-fiction; sci-fi is probably my genre of choice, in particular the rather splendid works of Mr Iain M Banks and Mr Phillip K. Dick. Every time I try to write prose so far it comes out as speculative fiction of one sort or another. Perhaps a difference between me and the average member of this forum is that my primary medium of expression is music. I poured my teenage angst into my lyrics, and when I ceased being a grumpy teenager I became a grumpy adult who began to experiment with non-angst-ridden expression. I am constantly seeking new inspiration for my lyrics, which nowadays are becoming more and more of a story/fable type genre. I have recently begun attempting to express myself by experimenting with other media: writing prose and also making a false start of a webcomic based on a wonderfully satirical and convuluted RPG scenario I once GMed. So... I attempt to be a jack-of-all-trades and risk mastering none. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that by reveiwing each other's art creative folk such as the ones i have seen posting here improve greatly; and I hope to bring plenty of constructive encouragement to the workshop here during my stay. It'll probably be a while before I have any of my own work for y'all to critique. -Tom
Hello Tom, Welcome to the Writing Forums. My interests run a pretty broad gamut as well. Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here anyway. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog. If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate. As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information. And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites. Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!
Hey perfectionist, I'll be looking forward to seeing your stories and such, and everone loves a jack of all trades. I hope that you can pull it off Z

Thanks for the welcome, peoples! I'm still enjoying exploring the forums at the mo... Games, Workshops, Rants... one thing that comes across in all threads is the supportive atmosphere, so I'm glad to be here. I'll find y'all later. But for now it is silly-o'clock in england. To Bed!
