    County Fair Help

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Carmina, Jun 17, 2009.

I want to enter some of my photographs into the county fair. I can enter a total of 8 pictures. 1 picture per category. I need some help narrowing down my choices and some advice on whether I should keep looking. Thanks for help.

So pretty! :) What kind of camera do you use?

I absolutely adore both of the floral ones, especially the B&W.
For the waterscapes, if you submit them as is, I like the first one better, but the second one, if you are allowed to alter them in any way, would look very cool if the upper left plant was cropped --you could do something very pretty with the way the sun hits the water in the second one.

One thing, though, is that your landscape does contain water (big duh); it's a very nice photo in my opinion, but in that way it does seem very similar to your waterscapes. I would almost suggest a microscopic look at landscape to avoid water, but that's my own personal preference and probably wont help you much in the technical aspects which they're probably judged on, right?

As for your self portraits, which seems to be the real competition here, I would go with either the second or third in your first post; either the bronzey one or the unaltered one with the flowers. They're both so different that I'm not sure how you can choose!

I think the third self-portrait is the most striking. The bronzy ones are distinctive, but somewhat "hard." The third is somewhat mysterious, but also very personal. The eye coyly peeking out really grabs me.

Of the waterscapes, the first has the stronger composition (sort of an S-form); I would go with that one.

Both of the florals are lovely. The first one jumps out more with the strong yellow center, but the second has a stronger mood. I'm not sure which of those I prefer.

They are all outstanding photographs. Let us know how many blue ribbons you earn!

I like the first picture of the waterscapes.
I like the third self portrait.
And I like the black and white floral plant.

    You're pictures are real good.
And it was so hard choosing between them.
I had a hard time choosing.
    You take wonderful photos.
    And you'll definitely win.

I'm afraid I can't offer an opinion on the rest, but this is an exceptionally striking picture to me - the features are sharp, and the expression intriguing, as well as the filter making you look like you're made of water. Kudos!

    my take:

    landscape is rather ordinary

    so is doggie

    floral/plant is exquisite... very o'keefe

    abstract is interesting... great bubbles

self-portait with hydrangeous is kitschy, but good/effective

bronzed ones don't do anything for me

second waterscape is the best, first not bad, but more ordinary

action is superb, catching both beasts with foot/feet off the ground and dog ahead that dog could be heading for

b/w floral is also exceptional... another nice tribute to georgia o

...you're clearly a gifted artist with the camera... best of luck with the comp!

thanks for the nice eye-candy break!

    love and hugs, maia
