    Cumulative Adjectives

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by dillseed, Apr 19, 2014.

Can I omit the comma in these?

    the big, brown package
    the small, red house

But if two or more adjectives are listed, do we need commas regardless? (See below.)

    the big, brown, torn package

    the small, red, dilapidated house

    Thanks.

No but to me it sounds better that way(with commas).

    depnds on what you're writing...

in journalism/academic/scientific/technical writing, being a stickler for the rules is necessary... but in fiction, the writer has a lot more leeway in such matters... though the new/unknown writer will be much less likely to be indulged, than an established 'name' with a good sales record...

comma usage is one of the most common areas where author style can trump the rules 'n regs...

Oxford comma. Use it or we ban you. :)
