    it wasn’t really as bad as Moose says it was, in my opinion. It did get a lot more heated and snippy towards the end of its life over the palestine stuff

    Thats partly because you didnt have to police it... continually breaking up fights and censuring people with whom you may actually agree on point but whose behaviour is unacceptable gets old.

    Not to mention the shower of reports from both sides of the line from people incapable of realising that their own behaviour is as bad as that of the people they are reporting, because in their minds that's different because they are 'right'

    The palestine stuff and the american election were the final straw, but to be honest it had been a long time coming, all the way back to its inception

    well…it was still probably the most civil series of interactions i’ve had when arguing over politics on the internet. I guess that doesn’t set the bar very high.

    Meh. :meh: I tried to stay out of the American election stuff. Seeing as I'm not an American, and never lived (or even travelled around, or even near) the USA, anything I would've said would have probably been uninformed and made me look foolish.

    The Israel-Palestine stuff, on the other hand, is something I know inside and out, seeing as I'd lived in the region for many years. I tried to pull back, though -- no reason to insult people, or thump tables, or yell "I'm right you're wrong" etc. That's just immature. ;)

    Anyhow ... if we used the debate room, instead, for a coherent exchange of views -- e.g. "I see what you mean, and I agree -- up to a point; but..." etc., then -- maybe? -- it would still be around. *shrug*
