Dude, that is awesome! That's exactly how I pictured her in the moment just before she hears the first wingsuiter drop. Amazing job, thanks very much!

So glad you like it. Good job yourself: if I drew her exactly how you pictured her that means your description was really good.

Good news! I got yet another new medium to learn. The wife is really spoiling me with options. I think they’re my new favorite and make really intense looking characters, so if you have a character that you’d like a marker interpretation in my style, post a description again!

Example of my first marker piece. My father has written The Timbertoes in Highlights for Children for decades and they were my favorite part as a kid. So I took one of his stories and reimagined it. They’ve since lost the whole wooden look since I was a kid, so I went with a ventriloquist dummy to bring it back.

As you can see, they REALLY pop compared to the pencils like the digital, but still have the texture and brushstrokes that my digital characters lacked. The more interesting the character description, the more I can push your illustration.

Hey, that's good stuff. What kind of markers are they? I might want to get some, as I've been kinda meaning to get back into traditional art.

I've already gotten two, but I have a pretty strange one I'd love to see interpreted, if you're so inclined. I've tried to abridge it, but it's still quite long. Should be plenty of material to play around with, at least.

On the 0-10 scale of evil, looks about 14 but at heart is more like a 2:

"Cannonball shoulders drawn up to cauliflower ears, Hugo Normus strode through life with fists in his pockets. No person in history better personified the idea of walking with a menace. It was easy to imagine that he, by virtue of his heavy plod, was the sole engine responsible for the earth's rotation, rolling it underfoot like a circus elephant balancing on a ball. He wore a scowl that could make omelet all on its own; any egg caught in his field of vision would inexplicably crack, and the yolk-and-whites would cook as it tried to slither away.

Hugo had just scraped one such morsel off the pavement and was chewing thoughtfully, gravel popping between millstone teeth.

… a little old lady had gotten the fright of her life when, on rounding a corner, she abruptly found herself within sneezing distance of Mount Normus. Her eyes hiked from the foothills of iron-capped work boots, through the forest of bandy trunk legs, up the crags and cliffs of gut and chest, all the way to the overcast summit where thunderheads ground and frollicked.

... Hugo's morning bathroom routine constituted a geological event. He shaved conscientiously every day, but one felt that if he ever elected to grow a beard, it would for one thing have reached maturity very fast, fueled as it were by some mutant strain of highly concentrated testosterone; and for another that it would be a kind of gnarled, gloomy opposite number to the Garden of Eden, a primordial haunted forest where small to medium wildlife lurked in dank hollows and slimy things bobbed in scummy ponds."

They’re called Caliart alcohol markers. Not the cheapest markers on Amazon, but near the bottom. I always like to use cheap stuff at first both because most of the time is spent learning and because I like learning to worth with limitations that I’m released of later. Just helps my learning process. If you take it up again, definitely share.

This character sounds great. Lots of muscles, got a picture in my head, just gotta pose him and I’ll probably play with it some tonight.

@Night Herald Here is “Hugo.” Big bulky characters are great for my comic style.

The only real description I got was that he was huge. Figured that meant muscular and tall, so I figured lifting a car to pull someone to safety would show his power and good side. I also drew him like 8 feet tall and beat him up a little. He came out great, I love this character.

After sketching, I realize it looked kinda like a young version of my father in law, so that helped give me a good character face, which is also why I decided he was black.

Amazing! It's radically different, but then there's very little concrete about my description. I had in mind something far more grotesque, in the vein of a traditional Norwegian troll (which are often depicted as having forests and things growing on them, which I guess is why I decided to give Hugo's descriptions a geological bent. Not a conscious source of inspiration, I'm actually just realizing it now). I like how yours is much more heroic, even superheroic. Good interpretetation, and great drawing. Thanks!

That is so interesting. I see the geological metaphors now, but they flew over my head as descriptive. I like subtle descriptions like that, I just missed it. Glad you enjoyed my characterization.

Your description actually had me think of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I got the idea of his lifting a vehicle from that scene in Predator, then adjusted it to look more rural America.

Your troll character with stuff growing on him sounds really cool and I’ll probably give it another go in a grittier style.

Your art is awesome! I'll give a description of one of my characters, if you'd like to draw her. I'd say she's a 6 on the evil scale, a bit nefarious at times. but with a good heart.

"The faerie had the face and physique of a thin, human child no older than 10, with a grin that seemed innocent but implied that she was up to something. Small black marks similar to acne dotted her chin, contrasting with her smooth, pale skin. Her platinum blonde hair was short and messy, as if someone had cut it in a hurry with no regard to how nice it would look. Her mud-stained clothes were the deep green color of the forest, making her blend in perfectly with the trees if it weren't for the shining crystal brooch on her shirt collar."

Thanks a lot. She sounds like a lot of fun to draw, I love the woods. I’ll probably draw her this weekend.

I got a new job, so I didn’t draw all week, I might finish her tonight, but probably not. Being experimental and going for super dramatic lighting. Here’s a sneak peak.

Since I took so long to produce it, I figured it had to be dramatic, so I set her up at night with colored lights. I have no idea how big she’s supposed to be, when I googled fairies they’re everything from tinker bell to giants. I guess it doesn’t matter since there is nothing else for scale. That could be a rosebud, a cherry, an apple, or a melon she’s offering you.

Wow, I love that interpretation of her! She's fairly short, so an apple wouldn't be far off. You did really well on the dramatic lighting.
