......genre sections like how the short story review section is. I think it'll be good since that way people can go straight to reviewing the novel genre they either prefer or are currently writing for to see what other people of the same genre are doing.
Sounds good to me. Although I guess it could depend on how many threads are posted in the novel section and if there'd be enough to support having genre specific sub-forums?
This has been raised before. It might happen someday, but it would be a lot of work for not much actual value. The work would be in moving every existing thread to an appropriate category.
Only as a temporary measure. Leaving the majority of threads in that category would not be acceptable in the long run, and we would not want new threads created there either. No, if we ever do it, we need to bite the bullet and really do it. I have mixed feelings anyway, though. People get too insular about categories as it is, and I feel it's beneficial to look outside the narrow categories. Also, what I've seen in Short Stories is that if a writer sticks a piece of writing into a category, and the writing is critiqued relative to the conventions of that genre, they often react indignantly ("Well, it's not really xxx, I just put it there because it seemed like theclosest fit..."). In novels, the critiques tend to remain genre-neutral, which I think has been a good thing.
as a fairly long-time member, i have to agree with cog on this... it's not needed and wouldn't have enough benefit to justify the work required...
