To me, this is also very relatable, but I've also noticed that some readers don't react all that positively to failures. I don't personally mind, I refuse to write my characters in any other way expect the way I want them to be (unless it's something very stupid), but there's something about shiny heroes or awesomely cool anti-heroes that appeal to a lot of people.. I like this too 'cause that's me with most things.
