When I was in art college, a fellow student said it's like drawing with a brick.

    @Shbooblie

That is 100% digital. I used a photo I took at a game and county fair as reference; the re-enactors were out in force that day. I used the pic I took as a basis for the clothing, etc. I worked it up in Photoshop, using stylus and tablet, then ran it through a filter or two. :)

Edited to add: (since I forgot to answer the question.)

It took a couple of hrs a day for a week. Didn't do it all in one go, and used a load of layers.

It looks incredible, it has a real pre raphaelite look to it, thanks for sharing - guess I'd better keep practicing! Haha

Seriously though, I am in awe :superagree:

Yeah I draw my characters, just because I want to improve my drawing skills as well as my writing ones.

They're not that good but have a gander:

For those of you who can't even draw a straight line but need a physical view of your character for reference, just search Hero Machine 3. It's a real easy to learn character creator, on the browser for free, and when you get the hang of it you can quickly create pretty cool concepts.

(Not and ad I just want to help.)

^ Thanks, I'll look into it.

When I do draw my characters, it's on MS Paint and it...doesn't look good at all. Apparently I wasn't gifted with the ability to produce art.

I've been drawing my whole life, and some years back I used to draw characters. But, as Tenderiser mentioned, I don't see my characters clearly, they are more blurry. So it's always been a bit like ... trying to draw my dreams (it doesn't work). I would just be frustrated that they didn't look anything like I imagined them in my head. Anyhow, I don't draw much these days. Sorry I don't have any drawings to show, but it's fun to see others work.

You don't have to draw a straight line. Draw a wobbly one -those are the best. :p

No one can draw well with a mouse. Have you tried a stylus and either a touch screen or drawing tablet? It might help.

Either that or pencil and paper. And one thing I can tell you (as a graduate of art college :) ) is don't assume your first stab at a drawing will be your last. Think drafts, just like in writing.

I usually try to have as vivid of an image in my head as I can, but unfortunately, I'm not much of an artist. I have made attempts though. The problem is they end up looking not much better than stick figures. Although, I do draw maps and things of that nature. I find it very entertaining world building, and plus, it doesn't require as much artistic prowess.

If I could, I would. But I can't draw worth crap, so I settle for vivid mental images.

A few weeks ago, I decided I was going to do some drawings based on scenes from my WIP, just to get my hand back in there. But you know what? I'm so out of practice, it would take a lot of effort to get my chops back up and I'd rather put that effort into writing.

It's the same with music. On Sunday, I sold my piano because I've only played it twice in the last year. It was a bit sad to see it go, but also freeing. My reasoning is that the less I split my attention, the better chance I have of nailing this writing lark.

YES! :D And they're terrible! I love drawing my characters and I wish I was better at it, but since I've been able to achieve at least a level of resemblance to what my mind's eye sees, I haven't given up. Maybe one day I'll be more satisfied with the results.

I would if I could. But all my stories originated as "manga in my head", so to speak.
