Off-Topic: I love Guinness Beer, Alex W. That and Newcastle. Love them. 8) You lot make the perfect beers. On-Topic: I...don't know. :/ I got so sick of politics that I stopped following it.
How does Alex feel about "you lot" including the Irish as well as the English? For that matter, how do the Irish feel about it? Guinness is excellent. I also like Harp. Bass Ale was always one of my favorites, and when it comes to the Scots, I like McEwans (though it always seemed like it should be MacEwans)!
We're always happy to take credit for someone elses work so we'll take it I presume the Irish created Guiness, i've never really looked into it at all, either way they seem to have taken to it well enough! I'm a fan of it, though I stick to my bottled Carlsberg for the most part I've been trying to get into Ale but it's not working so far. I was going to make a real effort to get into it this Christmas but unfortunately I saw a 24 pack of 'Duff' beer on an online gadget shop and that's now the drink of choice for the next few weeks..........What? I want to be Homer......
What? No love for Smithwicks? I love that beer when I can get it on draft, which I could in Canada. Here in SoCal, we aren't that privileged.
A little too far to the right, Felipe, I fancy. Things turn decidedly ugly over there. A slightly sozzled Felipe = 8 parts Sam Elliot, 2 parts ethanol.
Well the Guinness family brewed a lot of beers, but they did not 'invent' plain porter or Extra stout porter. IIRC they did make a breakthrough about two hundred years ago and made porter exclusively thereafter until they got involved in some other experimental thingies at the behest of Diageo. mercifully they have all died out except Harp.
Vodka is on the high end, running anywhere from maybe 35 to 40% alcohol to some versions that are like 90%. Beer is, what, 4.5% to around 7%?
No, it is just made with a different kind of yeast. The strength is contingent on the amount of sugar. And vodka is lots stornger than any beer! Whiskey is made from beer, they take the water out of it to make it stronger, basically.

Wasn't suggesting they definitely did chap, just presumed it had a strong connection to Ireland in some way! And good Beer knowledge by the way, I suspect you'd be good at a pub quiz with nuggets of info like that.
The Guinness brewery started in Dub in the 18the century, but there have been loads of others! I don;t know that much about it, just a bit. Like some of the real ales you guys make but by god they hare hard on the head.
I presumed it must've atleast been started in Ireland, I knew there was obviously a link, just couldn't remember what exactly it was. Info stored for pub quiz They seem to be pretty tough on the gut aswell judging by the size of most darts players. I drank with one and i'd gotten drunk and sobered up by the time he was pissed. Good God, the man was a machine.
I don't know anything about sport, not even how most are played, so I am useless at pub quizzes. Anytime I learn something new about one of those wanker football players I regard it as a personal failure. I think beer arrived here on the celtic trail, but I'm not sure. We did invent Whiskey though.
My entire business and trade revolves around it i'm afraid, I do like my football. Well then I bow to your superiority, I do enjoy a Jack Daniels. (I'm well aware that's not your brand but hey, you started it)
Jack Daniels is actually produced in a dry county, which is somewhat humorous (and makes for more boring tours of the distillery).
I used to drink it but got tired of it. It's kind of rough in any case. Scotch even more so now. Irish whiskey is all triple distilled which makes it a lot smoother and also eliminates all toxins (aside from the obvious one), which makes for a better head in the morning!
Your visage just screams Sam Elliot, baby! ( A compliment, I fancy) Felipe, recently, adopting his customary head-tilt :
I just have that kind of face, everyone seems to think they know me. Actually it's kind of funny because after posting the below picture on another forum, the comparison was made to Hulk hogan but someone asked if I talked like Sam Elliot when in fact, he talks just like me...
