Does the gender of the Protagonist affect who will read the book?

    It kinda just depends. You're right that there is a "usual" for certain genre, but it can actually be nice to have a "nonusual" sex for a certain genre.

    And example would be Brad Thor's The Athena Project. Not only does he have a female main character for his thriller, but it's a team of females. And I loved it just as much if not moreso than his male-protagonist books, and if he continues this series I'll definitely get them. But of course it also depends on how it's written. I think Brad Thor did a really good job, and it fit well with the plot/genre and whatnot, but I can see why maybe it wouldn't work as great.

    But in the end I don't really think it will matter [and doesn't matter to me]. If people like your writing style and the story is well written, it won't matter what the gender of the main character is, in my opinion.
