Apparently Domonic.p is no longer with the forum. It seems fitting to talk about that, since we did it for MLM and JJ Max. Personally I never really liked the guy. He wrote in the strangest style, was condescending to everyone, and seemed to make it a point to be generally unpleasant. At the same time I'm sad that someone has written themselves out of a valuable resource, simply because human interaction was something he didn't fully understand.
I didn't like him but damn did I enjoy reading everything he posted. Such a strange mix of condescension and ignorance. But didn't he leave the forums several years ago also? I have to admit I went back and read all his workshop postings and I think he tried to delete all his stuff and then quit the forums- makes me wonder if he'll be back in a week or so after he calms down.
The member's time with us is at a permanent end. The systems of corrective action available to the moderation team were exhausted by the member not once, but twice, the second time with insouciant alacrity. I agree that the loss of any member is lamentable, but just as traffic police are not accountable to teach people how to drive, so the moderation team is not accountable to teach the finer points of human interaction.
I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, but isn't the standard three strikes? Or did he use up his third on the year he joined the forum, because I think that was in 2011 or something.
Oh wait, he got removed from the forums? I thought he just deleted his own account because no one wanted to buy a book by Sol Stein and be talked down to.
The number of strikes can depend on how frequently and how violently the member swings the offensive item, whether it be a nastified tongue or a jagged rusty attitude.
On the forum I own and moderate, one strike can be enough. From our rules: Article 15 - The administrators and moderators of [this forum] reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to edit or delete posts and to ban users without notice or recourse when such posts or users are seen to be detrimental to the proper operation of the Forum.
I only caught one thread he posted on and he was pretty strange, entertaining, but strange. You have to wonder whether he wrote like that only to provoke.
Christ, dude! I saw this and thought Dominic had died. Thanks for giving me a frickin' heart attack. >:[ But yeah, seems like he broke one too many rules and paid for it.
Huh. Unless something was deleted, his post(s) in that thread might not even have earned him a warning on my forum. We insist on courtesy, but are practical enough to realize that everyone slips now and then.
Two offending posts were deleted. And this was not the only thread in play that lead to the member's demise.
And in addition, as @Wreybies stated above, domenic.p had been banned twice before. He didn't change his behavior. When a baseball pitcher hits the batter with a pitch, usually the umpire warns him not to deliberately throw at the batter. If he hits another batter, he's usually tossed out of the game. We gave domenic.p more chances than umps give pitchers who hit batters, but eventually we just had to throw him out.
I won't miss him. He was abrasive as hell, and the combination of condescension and basic grammatical errors in many of his posts made me wonder if he was just intentionally screwing with people. It's shit like this. He personally attacks someone for their writing form, yet he manages to use "write" in place of writer. Was English his second language?
First off I want to say I find these sort of discussions distasteful. The guy is gone so why are we shit talking him? However, to answer Ad's question, Dominic suffered from old man/lost opportunity syndrome. People like this are lacking in basic self esteem. Its obvious from his posts he has not gotten the amount of acknowledgement he believes he is due in real life, and thus sought it here by asserting his writing authority and attacking others. It's a shame for him, but a writing forum is really not the place to solve this sort of problem.
To carry the analogy further, a professional pitcher might also be fined $5,000 or $10,000 for throwing at a batter on purpose if it's too obvious. It would be a great way to raise money for this website.
Well, I just hope he can find his happiness some day. Not worth wasting your life with perpetual self-hatred over lost opportunites. Taking it out on others doesn't solve it at all. It only nets you with folks who won't give two llamas about your problems when you are hurting and in need of someone to talk to. They'll just think you're whining. I feel sorry for folks like him, but that doesn't excuse his actions.
Be strong domenic.p. May you and your outlandish views on Canada and its socioeconomic position in the world go forth and prosper on many more forums. The internet needs you!
I must admit I almost feel bad admitting I've never even noticed any of this now-gone member's posts. Oh well.
I thought it was just me. I requested a link so I could peruse the alleged ball-baggery (noun: To exhibit, demonstrate or personify, a ballbag. [Scots: Bawbag.]) and felt much the same. Dominic who?
