Headline of the Day from The Babylon Bee: Strong Link Found Between Enjoying IPAs, Eating Soap As A Child
Heh. I’m completely over the IPA craze and seeing that every craft brewery has 25 IPAs and one or two other options.
I find it nearly undrinkable, and I always do my best to enjoy whatever beer is put in front of me. I was in a small town in Montana once, on my way back home after visiting a Marine buddy. He dropped me off at the train station but of course the Amtrak was running three hours late. It was midday on a weekday, but there was a bar open across the street so, with my seabag over my shoulder, I wandered over. Must have looked very "city" to the bartender because he just growled "Whaddya drinkin'?" at me. "Whatcha got on tap?" "Old Mil." He didn't name another. "That'll do." It was good prep for living here, where very few bars or restaurants offer more than one beer option. Had he said some sort of IPA I guess I could have taken it, but I'd prefer almost anything else. The feelings I have about American mass-market beers after two decades abroad would land me in the Debate Room, however.
I have not been drinking alcoholic drinks for the last couple of decades. I did drink coffee since then, until a couple of years ago I was making good progress and changing from my 18 ounce mug of coffee to one of green tea, still one tea bag, and that one will be all I have for a day. It is either or. Hot summers have changed that and I fall into drinking some cola instead, until summer is really over, and I go back. I was recently hard up for money and could not replace my vitamin B12 supplements I should have, and I tried getting any food fortified with that vitamin, and I found rice milk that is, and got that. To be sure I use it enough, I went back to coffee that I would add it to that, and I have been having coffee instead of the green tea for a while now, again.
Woo-hoo, drinks! Tequila or Scotch? Tequila or Scotch? Tequila or Scotch? How about both? Don't mind if I do! But which one first? Gonna let my fingers do the walking....
This turned out to be a good recommendation, I've got through a couple of bottles of it since. I know you're not around much any more, Steerpike, but thanks!
