Punctuation eBay and iPad starting a sentence

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by dillseed, May 4, 2014.

If a trademark name is spelled with a lowercase letter and starts a sentence, do we change its spelling with a capital letter to start the sentence? No recasts, please.
    :)

iPad sales have skyrocketed during the past several years.

eBay had some great offers last month!

    Thank you.

I'd say, start the sentence with the capital. Grammar rules override brand names!

I'm willing to be talked out of this position, though. :p

Brand names are never changed. If it's spelled with a lowercase letter, use lowercase.

i agree brand names shouldn't be changed... but if you start a sentence like that, brace yourself for having it reworded by the editor, so the name isn't the first word... there's no good reason not to...
