English is such a boggle, and left with a typing finger with nothing to do. Tell me, does an elipsis count as a period at the end of a quote? Does it matter whether i use ... or . . . or .....? Is there a diffrence in emphsis between them? Whats a finger to do?
...no... a period must follow it, so there will be 4 instead of the usual 3 dots... ...yes, it does!... first example is incorrect, imo, as there is usually no extra space before or after the ellipsis [though some guides may prefer it, i don't... and the publisher's house style will rule, anyway, so it won't matter if you get it 'wrong']... and last is incorrect, as a proper ellipsis has only 3 dots, never less and never more... the middle one is done correctly...
