a recently posted thread in the essay section of the non-fiction area caused a bit of confusion [for me, at any rate], after cogito noted that it did not follow formal essay structure and i mentioned that all essays don't have to be as strictly structured as when writing one for an english class... he suggested i ask for a clarification from admin here... so, admin: would you please take a look at the exchange in that thread [ https://www.writingforums.org/showthread.php?p=155433#post155433 ]and see if perhaps the word 'formal' or something similarly specific can added to the sub-forum's descriptive blurb? ... and in re that, i have to admit i'm confused by the part in the current section description [above] that goes, 'rather than autobiographical or otherwise' ... what is that supposed to mean?... hope you can humor a momentarily addled old lady and unconfuse me... and make it easier to understand and follow?.. maybe something more like: love and hugs, maia
Nonfiction covers much more than true stories. The "it happened in real life" part could also contribute to members thinking that all non-narrative fiction belongs in essays. Instead of How about something like:
Thanks - I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that original description. I revised it. Thanks Cog.
Great! As for what you were thinking, didn't that description originate when Non-Fiction was a subforum of Short Stories? In that context, it's pretty clear what you were thinking.
