In my novel, the antagonists are a group of evil warlocks who worship an evil God, however I need a name for this evil cult. Help with it! Oh, and by the way, what makes something sound evil?
Microsoft. I think you should utilize succinctness or ambiguity in correlation with an occult or frowned upon practice. Therefore, Microsoft is a perfect name. No one knows what it means, but we all know insatiable greed is never good.
Ok, first of all, I love adamant's answer I'm assuming from your description that it's fantasy? one common way to make something sound evil is to use lots of harsh plosives - t, k, p, d, g, b, or other letters with harsh sounds. You can also use a lot of s's if you're looking for something more sinister and snake-like (eg Severus Snape, Slytherin).
K and R s bring off a good tone, words that have subtle evil meanings can also help. Skarlac is a fictional race I invented, sounds evil enough to me.
Don't make them sound so EvilMcEvilyPants that the reader can't stand it. Modern readers are gaining a taste for ambiguity.
I used a very clever of assortment of letters to abreviate a funny phrase for my evil company in a fantasy I.C.U.P.P.!!! International Corperation Undergoing Paper Productions.
The Organization for International Egalitarianism -- "Removing inequality by removing diversity." ...and that, my friends, is how you bring genocide into the twenty-first century. I think it's wise to remember that these people genuinely believe that their way is correct. They're not trying to do evil simply for the sake of evil, they want to challenge conventions due to their twisted perceptions.
Sounds a little too close to Sarlacc (giant worm thing from Star Wars VI) for my comfort. But I suppose my comfort is irrelevant.
But they're not an incorporation. They're a demonic cult of warlocks who sacrifice humans to their god to gain more power, however they become twisted and mad when they gain more power.
The Involuntary High-Level Occupation Reduction Deputies! TIHLORDs. Tylords! Sounds evil to me. And it's a great politically-correct term for "League of Assassins."
I haven't got a name that sounds good for me. I don't want something random like Broknaka or Glissoc, but sounding that sounds evil or arcane like Death Eather, Mythic Dawn, Forsworn, etc.
Mystic Brotherhood perhaps. Sounds ambivilent, but attached to the warlocks in question, it works as an evil name. If anything, the 'evilness' of a name is by association, not title.
