Bah! For the longest time this year I thought they would be doing Henry V at the Shakespeare festival this summer. But it turns out I was wrong ... BECAUSE THEY'RE DOING TITUS ANDRONICUS. That's like ... the worst tragedy ever written. Tons of people die, there's rape, and cutting out of tongues, and hands, and people dressed as revenge, and people knowing that whomever is dressed up as revenge is really just Tamora and her little sons of grossness. I'm pretty psyched. I wanna get a close seat so that I can get drenched in fake blood.
Hahaha. I enjoy that pun. Sanguine. Saturninus. I hope they make him look all pale skinned and vampirish.
I found an awesome modern performance of the last scene of the play, for anyone interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCwKozdkzms
The only thing I dislike about that scene is that Titus Andronicus could be a bit more ... subtle about the cannibilism. He shouts to much out of the blue. But what can you expect? It's difficult to make something that gory look good.
Not the spraying of the blood. I'm referring to Titus like ... yelling like a weirdo. It seemed out of place in that performance. Even though that's probably how Shakespeare envisioned it.
