    Exultation of New

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Marshall41, Feb 5, 2009.

I would not call myself the most self motivated writer, or even a writer at the present. If these few lines do not appease the plurality of persons which may encounter them over other such introductions it would not surprise me in the least. Writing has always been a passion and pastime that wholly captures my attention, but unfortunately inversely so for those who have stumble upon my work. Poems have always fascinated, but dually disheartened my interest for writing. I must admit that poetry is not my forte, but hope that some day it will be well perfected despite the prolonged ailing of my will. Most other forms and varieties of writing are well accepting to my health. It is my greatest wish that these new experiences will endow such exultation upon my soul as I never deemed possible………
Basically I enjoy writing and am decent at it but improvement can always be found. I hope that this new experience will be most helpful in the development of my writing (poems, short stories, novels, etc.) and am glad to take any criticism that is intended as constructive. I am in need of as much help as can be given and thank you who are reading this for your time and consideration.

P.S. – I don’t normally write like this, so don’t be put off. I just thought it might be nice to write something more original then the usual dissection of ones personal life.

I was seriously thinking you were trying to impress us for a minute there, and thought about throwing a thesaurus at you, but I digress.

Welcome, Sir. I hope you find the stay a pleasant one.

and watch out for Cogito. I hear his projects breed like bunnies on Viagra.
    just so you know...

Ahoy Marshall, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

    Don't mind my stalker. ;)

Posting your own work should not be among the very first things you do here. It is worth taking the time to see what other people have done to improve their writing, and see if some of it applies to your writing as well. That is part of why we require members to review other members' work before posting their own for review. On the other hand, there are no restrictions, other than content and copyright rules, on showcasing your work in your member blog.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

And while you're looking around, don't forget to check out our Weekly Short Story Contest and Weekly Poetry Contest. They actually run more than one week apiece, but any member may enter, and all members are urged to vote for their favorites.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    Hi there.

[I can't seem to delete the extra post. My internet is so dumb. Does anyone know how? I read the forum rule and everything but there appears to be no button. I am distressed.]
