    Favorite Christian novels

Discussion in 'Book Discussion' started by Lucian Hodoboc, Apr 15, 2018.

Reading Christian fiction is one of my recently discovered passions. What is your opinion about Christian novels, and do you have any favorites that you could recommend? :confuzled:

I would strongly recommend anything from Gilbert K. Chesterton. Makes strong apologetics about Christianity as a whole, and even has some interesting detective-style novels (the Father Brown's series of it are remarkable.) But if you wish something more 'hardcore' about Christianity, check 'Heretics' and then 'Orthodoxy', in that order.

He used to argue (in good, old polite fashion) against George Bernard Shaw(Shaw was socialist) on the same topic, via newspaper's articles, and though they were strong opponents on the philosophical area, were great friends until Chesterton died. I read once that Shaw joked about Chesterton on his birthday, for him being so gallant that once he gave his sit on a trolley car to two ladies at the same time (Chesterton was notoriously 'wide'). Can't find the precise quote, but you can get the kind of fun they got on the intellectual aspect by mocking at each other and keeping such friendship.

More philosophical than fiction, Hilaire Belloc has some good books also about Christianity.

C.S. Lewis and George MacDonald, the latter of whom influenced the former.

I've never read any of C.S. Lewis' non fiction works but I know a couple of people who do and they all praise them highly.
