Fantasy slightly edges out SF, don't like most westerns, but I love Louis L'Amour, like some horror, Poe, Lovecraft, love Steven King's concrete images, like comedy...
Weirdly enough, I have more of the other genres in my personal library than Fantasy, which is my favourite...maybe. But my HD is full of paranormal fiction e-books and these are the ones I read when I'm strapped for time - which I usually am - so I end up reading these while my classic literature rots away in my library. BTW @Daniel What kind of project is this for?
I would have said science fiction a while ago, but since December I've read Books 1-5 of Harry Potter, the Hobbit, and the Lord of the Rings (I took a class on J.R.R. Tolkien and I was reading Harry Potter in my free time, so mostly I was reading both series simultaneously). I've found a new interest in fantasy, so I guess I put that. I also love a lot of other genres. Poe has written a few of my favourite short stories, so I guess I like some kinds of horror, and I've read plenty of Stephen King.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite.. I'm pretty much all over the place with what I like. I hate horror and am not crazy about fantasy. Let's see what genres I have... Historical Fiction Classic Vampire Fiction (NOT TWILIGHT) Mystery Thriller Science Fiction Contemporary Humor A little bit of Romance Most romance sucks unless it's another genre with a romantic element.
My favourite has to be general fiction; war, fantasy, crime, etc, etc - I will read any and every kind of fiction book out there.
Genres What is everyone's favorite genre to read? And why? It's interesting to know what people like to read and why. I like to read coming-of-age, vampire romance, mysteries; however I am open to anything. I read coming-of-age novels (thanks to marina I now know what this genre is =] ) because they are realistic and some of my favorite authors are Jodi Picoult and Sarah Dessen. Vampires/Vampmance are fun and interesting to read and I love anything vampire. Mysteries I read because well I'm obsessed with things like CSI, NCIS, Law and Order:SVU and reading books like that peak my interest. My grandma got me into mysteries and thrillers. -Kaye
I enjoy reading horror and sci-fi. I wouldn't say there's a specific explanation as to why I like them.
I like reading Fantasy, Romance, and Action Thriller. I don't know why I like Action Thrillers, but I know I like Fantasy and Romance because I can feel like there's love and/or magic in my life for the short period I'm reading the story. In short, I read to escape life. I would even argue that I enjoy Action Thrillers because they offer an escape from boring everyday monotony.
I voted for Romance eventhough that's not the only genre I enjoy reading. Even in romance, there must be other things going along with it like Drama and Fantasy or maybe Horror.
I had trouble choosing between fantasy and romance. I love them both so much!! Finally chose fantasy, though, 'cause the Harry Potter series holds a special place in my heart, one that no romance story can take, haha.
Science Fiction. the possibilities are limitless for storylines. limitless future enables all kinds of crazy things, teleportation, time displacement, A.I.s, space battles, world destruction. simply brilliant genre.
I can't pick because I don't like books that revolve around only one genre. The book, to capture my interest, needs to incorporate a variety of genre's. For instance, the Ring series by Koji Suzuki incorporates a grandeur of genre's such as mystery, romance, drama, and even thriller.
Personally i love fantasy! I find horror and and a lot of "humourous" novels quite hard to get into
Hard to pick. For genre fiction I like science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I also read a lot of general fiction / literature.
That's a hard one to pick from. I think my favorite would be fantasy, but I like General Fiction as well.
Typically I like fantasy best in YA or Juvi fic, general fiction or mystery/thriller when it comes to the adult stuff. I do enjoy a lot of non-fiction though too.
Isn't horror a subdivision of fantasy? Well I mostly read fantasy, but my favourite reads are crime/ thriller
No, it is considered a separate genre. If you want to get technical, I suppose all fiction is "fantasy," but horror isn't typically included in the fantasy genre. In fact, in most books stores I've been in, horror is shelved with general fiction, whereas science fiction and fantasy are shelved together.
