I voted for horror but It´s a tough question. I guess that, any genre as long as the plot and characters are interesting, it will work for me. The ones I like the most are fantasy/horror and both mixed
Although i am very fond of reading, i have not been an avid reader all these years and so couldn't ascertain which is the genre of my liking. But i surely love romance with alot of excitemnet and adventure and thrill.
i love the genre which we call fantasy, not only for the well written landscapes and interesting characters (and the comments of the (flat) comedian character). Fantasy books/stories are like epics. Long stories/poems about epic battles and legendary heroes. (Most people think fantasy is the same as sci-fi... well i disagree!)
Literary, thriller, a bit of horror -- these are among my first. But the top one spot is claimed by none other than fantasy. Note: I despise LotR, and generally frown upon elves/dwarves and names with too many "th"s in them. Most of the tropes annoy the crap out of me. Yet I am drawn to it, or at least, to its better side. Carol Berg, Mieville, Novik, LeGuin, Lynch, etc. "Classic" fantasy is not my fare. I have tried to read "The Worm Ouroboros" and I found myself wading through the long descriptive paragraphs and bland characters.
I have to go with fantasy. Anything that has magic, swords, dragoons, and thugs. You can't get bored with fantasy. I been a fan of the Theive's World and Dragaeran series for along time.
I'd always enjoyed Sci-fi, as the thought that it COULD happen really interests me. Fantasy is good, but I just don't enjoy how impossible it can be. Crime is always good too, I always love a good whodunnit.
I haven't personally read very many good westerns, with the exception of Lonesome Dove. Actually, that was the only one I've ever read. I think one big factor why it goes so wholly unnoticed is that there's little exposure for that kind of fiction. I don't remember there even being a section at a retail bookstore like Borders or Barnes and Nobles dedicated to the genre, as opposed to sci-fic/fantasy, romance, or literary.
At my Barnes and Noble there is a Western section. It's only one small section but they have quite a few great ones, including all the classics as well as new ones. I love Westerns. One of my favorite genres.
Hey Still Life, if you are looking for a good Western novel to read I can recommend a few. Any of these would be a great place to start to get you into the genre. - The Ox-Bow Incident - Riders of the Purple Sage - Monte Walsh - The Big Sky - The Shootist - The Virginian - The Time It Never Rained - From Where the Sun Now Stands - Destry Rides Again - Sea of Grass These are just a few great Westerns. There are tons more. If you decide to try any of them let me know what you think. All of those are considered classics of the genre.
Ever since I've been a little kid I've been obsessed with the Fantasy genre. I just love reading about things that don't happen in real life. So fantasy is defiantly my favorite, but I must say that the Crime/Thriller genre is starting to get my attention.
Have you ever read my favorite fantasy novel, The Stone and the Flute? Always loved that one. It's a long epic. Almost 1,000 pages if I remember correctly.
Hmm. I was always in love with Creepypasta's and other stories that left a cold chill down my spine. Horror for sure.
It was a very hard choice to only pick one. Though I enjoy ROMANCE more than the rest only because romantic writings bring me into another world where only sweet romance exists. Though, dreadfully, the great majority of the real world-romance doesn't exist as much.
General fiction is definitely my field. Especially because all of the ideas that can be expressed through it.
Arg! No multiple choice?! I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, but I love autobiographies of comedians and other interesting people (like William Shatner).
Action thrillers are my favorite. YA action thrillers, because teenagers interest me a bit more than adults. Generally. I enjoy a lot of stuff.
Almsot every kind interests me, but historical fiction and fantasy have a special place for me, as I am very interested in history, and fantasy is the genre I write in.
I am definitely a man of many genres, although I voted General Fiction. My favorite types of books are set in the modern world, but I'll read anything that looks interesting and if I have the time.
