hmm.. yes this is a tough decision... but if I had to choose one, on days that I feel really bad, Im into reading something light and funny so I would have to choose humor
I prefer Science Fiction or Fantasy as a genre. But I found the quality of the writing to be generally lower than for example Crime/Thrillers and it doesn't look like Lee Child will change his career
I like reading horror - it only got 7.79% on the poll which is surprising to me, I thought it would of gotten more. I read horror because I like to be frightened, safely, so rather than doing something dangerous like sky driver, bungee jumping etc., I can get my scares in print form. I can stop reading if I get too chicken, not that I ever do. The creepier it is the more I am drawn in.
I love horror, paranormal romance, fantasy, murder mystery... especially books that combine those elements. Paranormal mystery could be the next big thing.
There are a lot of speculative fiction writers on the forum! I'm more a fan of literary fiction, though where exactly the line blurs is sometimes difficult to distinguish.
I lean more toward mystery/suspense, culinary mysteries, crime/whodunit, thriller but...do enjoy many other categories, including non-fiction and self-help.
Good thing this wasn't a multiple-choice poll, or I would have chosen a few...or many, for that matter. I voted for Western almost immediately, since Historical fiction wasn't listed. Then I saw the Other option. Eh, I would have gone for Western either way. Adventure/Action, horror, thriller are big genres I like to read in. Recently, Sci-Fi has been capturing my attention because of the fascinating plots and storylines involved, hell I ain't no science guy myself but I like it whatsoever. There's some smaller genres like fantasy, comedy/humor, romance, mystery that I read when I feel in the mood, or when it catches my interest.
So many but to name but one I'd have to say techno-thrillers. Esponiage, nuclear war, assasination, guns, politics, intrigue are better than dinner to me!
Fantasy! In front by a mile. I love being able to immerse myself in a world other than the one I live through every day.
Historical fiction, fantasy, some sci-fi, occasionally a mystery or romance but it pretty much has to be of the historical nature.
This was a tough choice. I have to choose fantasy based purely on the number of books in the genre I've read. Science fiction and horror are a very close second and third, however.
Whatever I feel like reading at the time. Normally its fantasy or sci fi but I'll read any book that doesn't bore me.
Generally anything with Superman (or Batman) in it No but seriously, when it comes to literature, I tend to enjoy (soft) sci-fi and fantasy, anything with a good adventure that can take me out of the real world setting for a while. I'm a bit of an escapist; I tend to read and write to explore what doesn't really exist. Classical literature doesn't bother me, though. I find that many of those books can be interesting once one overcomes any language or setting barriers. If it's good and/or entertains me. I'll read it. By entertain I mean anything from makes me have fun, to gets me engaged, to makes me think about things. (One example of something that's considered pretty bad--for good reason--that I still really enjoyed is Eragon and it's sequels.)
I like a mixture. Fantasy, zombie, many others. I like a lot of stuff. I couldn't chose so I put other.
Soft sci-fi thrillers that have a dash of fantasy. I don't care about space drive hyper engine light speed capacitators; I want to know how Artyom will save his home, and what terrors he will face in The Metro.
