I said fantasy, but by a narrow margin. I'll pretty much read anything that looks like it has an interesting synopsis. The last couple of novels I read weren't fantasy, though. I guess I'd be more likely to give something a shot even if the synopsis didn't catch my attention if it was fantasy, although I'll give anything a try.
horror and romance with a mix of fantasy.. depends really on how i am feeling but my current novel has a mixture of horror and romance. Majority of books that i read are horror and romance mixed also so maybe this contributes to why i have started writing in that way, as it is a style i am comfortable with.
Fantasy, of course. To me, it's the most imaginative and creative branch of fiction. Not to mention, I highly value ingenuity and creativity in a story.
It kinda depends on the book more than the genre... I've enjoyed a number of fantasy novels, but there are also a large amount I haven't been able to get into. I've been addicted to Frost, a crime series, but haven't read any other book from the genre. I've enjoyed a couple of romantic novels, and a couple of...well, novels I don't know where to place! Haha. That being said, I want to write for fantasy, so I suppose I'll opt for that!
It would be fantasy for me. It usually entails me to keep on reading rather than general fiction that I might take breaks on every few days. I haven't read any romance and I don't think that I would like it, nor have I read any westerns either. I used to read a lot of mystery when I was a child. I think I need to go back into that again.
I tend to be more down to Earth, liking novels that talk about realistic things, or realistic things distorted in a way to make them fantastic. I like books that step outside the norm.
It looks like this particular forum is full of many different kinds of readers, but, as always with these forums, contains the most fantasy fans.
Fantasy, of course! I never even try to read anything else. BOR-RING! Why would I wanna read about some dudes problems in life? Lame. The only other type I like is just an action-packed fiction. (Something like Tom Clancy. Without Remorse was a good book. I should read it again, some time.)
My favorite genres are Romantic and Victorian literature. Since this list seems to deal with contemporary fiction, I picked fantasy as I also enjoy that genre. I particularly like reading dark fantasy and sword and sorcery.
Manga and graphic novels mostly. I should really read more books. I do like reading about ancient Japan because Swords Are Cool!
I had to go for ''general fiction'', though I have to say my favorite genres are dystopian novels, psychologic mysteries and historically correct dramas (especially of cultures other than the West).
I read everything. All of the above, plus nonfiction, history, biography, politics, religion, current events, websites, newspapers, magazines. In a pinch, I read the cereal box. I used to only read Horror, but my enthusiasm for it is beginning to wear down. I've been reading a lot of Fantasy lately, especially that of the metaphysical variety. I can't stand novels grounded in reality, so I guess surrealist-fiction in general.
I'm not particularly tied to a genre, but more to a level of writing. I can't read the simplistic stuff you find often in mass markets or the like. I like involved, complex stories with solid character development - whatever the genre may be.
I like a little of everything. I really don't care for non-fiction much though. I Like sleuth/mysteries, fantasy, just about any general fiction, some horror. I am not one for romance unless it is realistic. If it's full of mush, or stuff like Harlequin, forget it!
