Nina - a goody two-shoes who never swears - after being shoved back into closing elevator by her detoxing alcoholic friend (who is trying to corrupt an office mate on one last bender )

"Madison, what the f***! You can't just f***ing..."

*elevator doors close before she can finish her sentence*

It's not much but it was a turning point for this character which is why it is special to me

My favorite. I live by a quote I technically made. It's a close tie with

I dunno, I like radical quotes like that...

My friend's favorite is

My characters don't offer a great deal in the way of one liners, so it was a task for me to select my personal favorite quotes. I'm nowhere near finished my novel, and if I were asked to list my favorite quotes tomorrow, my list would probably be different. Anyhow, as of now my personal favorites are:


"Because Coelwulf, it is a matter of showing appreciation and respect to the creator who has bestowed all of us with so much in this life. Calling him out on his methods and questioning his divine plan is nothing more than a blatant display of ungratefulness on your part. One cannot possess true morality without first having accepted the creator into his life. If a divine, objective standard of what is right and wrong ceases to exist outside of our natural world, then the very nature of right and wrong becomes subject to flawed human interpretation, and is therefore made entirely objective. It is impossible for us as humans to distinguish good from evil unless we have an infinite reference point which is absolute good; therefore Coelwulf, your mere questioning of the faith as you so eloquently put it, is a sign that you lack true morality."

- This line is derived from one of the main antagonists and serves to sum up much of his character and ideology


"Tell me, why do you wear that mask."

- The very first line delivered from a seperate antagonist and another that really sums up the character. The line however is much stronger within its context.


"And my mother, she would go out of her way everytime to defend his actions; I always hated her for it. Once I had become of age, I had immediately enlisted in the forces, attempting selfishly to leave that life behind; I resented her weakness and was afraid of becoming weak myself. A few years had passed and I had gotten word that she had been stricken with the plague. We had not spoken since the day I had walked out on her,though I thought about her everyday; I would come to realize just how strong and beautiful of a person she truly was, and how much of a bastard I had been. The day I had abandoned her, I left her with the belief that she was alone and that nobody truly cared. She had passed the night prior to my arrival, and to this day I have never forgiven myself for what I had done to her. I wanted so badly to tell her how sorry I was, and that I cared about her."

- Spoken by one of the main protagonists, this quote serves to provide insight into what has made the character into who he is.

 

This quote is my favourite because it makes me laugh.

“I don’t care if you were a dancing fairy when you were younger."

It came from my main character Rya it was directed at an FBI agent when Rya was taking one of her dead werewolves away from the police. He had told Rya that he was a detective when he was younger and he knew that bodies weren't allowed to be taken until investigations are completed.

While arguing over weather or not to give CPR to her father:

"Ew, I'm not kissing my Dad."

A thought which goes through some people's minds when their fathers need CPR, probably.

 

“Don’t act so innocent – it pisses me off.”
I love this line from because the character that says this line normally doesn't get angry. Anger only hits him if he's pushed to the limit. He's normally a calm person and keeps his distance from other people because he's afraid to let them in. So when he get's angry, it's time to back the heck up and walk away slowly.

“Do leafy vegetables even have the capacity to feel towards their predatory humans?”
This line is just simple humour. The protagonist is talking about one of the quarterbacks and he used to be a jerk to her back when they were younger. However the protagonist's perky friend happens to have a crush on the quarterback and wishes to get his attention which leads to this line. Also, the quarterback's name is Taro and we all know that Taro is a vegetable (also a Japanese name )

 

one of my minor characters in Order Of The Black says "Damn that must be one p***ed off dwarf" about the Dwarf Main Characters brother

 

“Alright, I have to stop real quick. I am still here. I am alive.” I patted my body to show everyone how real and existent I was, “just letting you know, because I’m pretty sure I heard someone crying back there as if that was the end of me. But alas, because I am the one telling you this story, it was obviously not, the end of me that is.”

“I mean do I have good timing or what? I almost felt nostalgic when my barely functioning liver was removed from my body because it had always been so dedicated to the pursuit of love.”

 

Chiara: “Seven’s not lucky. Seven’s odd. It can’t be divided by 2, or 3, or, 4, or 5. It’s prime. It’s…such an odd number.”

Kirial: “I’m dense, and clumsy, and pretty pathetic. The only thing I’m good at is climbing trees. That’s no good for Arciel. He needs to fly. And I believe that you can make him fly.”
Chiara: “But I can’t even walk.”
Kirial: “But I still believe in you.”

Yurei/Yume: "I tried to become human."

Kirial: “It’d be really nice if I could fly…but it’s kinda lonely up there, don’t you think?”

Verne: “The world is too fragile for its own good. Even now, it’s trembling.”
Kanon: “I wouldn’t mind seeing those ripples…But if it’s trembling, then it must be crying. Then, to make it better…we should light it up.”

Kanon: "You make the wind rise in me..."

Kirial: "I just realized how sad it is to watch the snow disappear again and again..."

Argent: "You're delusional."

Yurei/Yume: "Even so, I'll keep on walking. I believe that summer will come. For even the snow in this city has to disappear some day."

Arciel: "Please leave me alone. I went so far to protect my own little world, so please don't break it..."

and

"I am heir to the throne, and you...you are nothing."

 

I like a lot of my character's lines. Here's one I especially like after my character is asked sarcastically where her dress is as they watch some older girls at a distance talk about theirs:

“I’m only eleven. Apparently dresses aren’t required until I’m thirteen.”

 

Setting is my main protagonist has been captured by a roman like magic-hating society. Forced to fight as a gladiator. Been there for 3 years. The High Commander of the military approaches him and asks: "Why are you so good at what you do? Most would have died in the first few months." The protagonist answers: "I watched a lot of corny fantasy movies alone and naked in my apartment with a bottle of scotch in one hand and an imaginary sword in the other...High Commander."

 

i may have laughed out loud when i read that. here is another one liner from my main dwarf character in TMSC (Setting: he and the main human character are a in an openly gay relationship, Lorai is a master blacksmith)

“Married couple my ass! I’ll give him married couple” Kilnir shouted in dwarfish. Lorai raised an eyebrow and shook his head, disappearing back into the smith again.

*Edit* one thing ive begun to notice with Kilnir, is that he never really pays much mind to what he says and does...

 

“Hm...telling her I'm going to a glowing forest, guided by a talking Raven, to visit her dead grandson, isn't going to work, is it.” (MC discussing traveling with an elder totem)

 

"What do you think? I'm an animal with an instinct to survive!"

After a bloody war, the hero stands before the villain, a woman whom he once loved. He reflects on all the blood that has been spilled so far, wishing for no more violence.
He drops his right hand sword: "War does not decide who is right"
He drops his left hand sword: "It only decides who is left"

 

This is a main character that is an anti-hero to a side project that I want to further explore. Her name is Kyntaria and she is an elf in a high fantasy world. The quote I wrote is a scene talking with a waitress.

"Some friendly advice, don't pretty up yourself too much. All you end up doing is make yourself a bigger target."

Obviously, this is open to interpretation and the way you look shouldn't matter what others think of you. She is merely saying that out of personal experience.

There is a term Wabi-sabi .
meaning or indicating the beauty of imperfection , according to it a bit of imperfection in perfection always captures your mind. it will always stand out. But also depends on your story.

 

Mine is :

"there is no difference between kings and whores, both are for the people. Until the king gets angry, because then kingdoms fall".

one of my main guy saying it to the prince (my MC) who is going to be a king.
