Ah, Groucho. A great wit. There's a story of how his daughter Melinda wanted him to join a country club so she could use their pool. He applied for a membership and was refused on the grounds that he was Jewish. He wrote back: "My daughter is only half Jewish. Can't she go in up to her waist?" Of course, his most famous remark about clubs was that he wouldn't belong to any club that wanted him as a member.
"It's 4 a.m. again You think that I could sense a trend I'm stayin' up too late just so I can stay awake I wish I weren't so self-obsessed (Oh-oh) Wish that I could be the best (Oh-oh, oh) Excited with my words, but I'm nervous and I'm bored I'm so bored of wakin' up, I'm so bored (Bored, hey!) Bored of what's inside my cup, I'm so bored (Bored, hey!) I'm exhausted by my heart I'd feel good if only I could finish what I start" -Tessa Violet "Bored" AKA the song that called me out way to hard at 4 am
And, while we're quoting comics, let's not forget Berke Breathed's Bloom County, where Opus Penguin (or was it Cutter John?) said, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood."
"I ain't got the answers I'm a man that's tryin' to make it on his own without a hiccup and they don't understand it. They just looking at me probably thinkin' I'm a fuckin' slip up and everyone 'round me actin'. Like they got a better way to settle when it kicks up. The venom only goin' to take a minute 'til it sink into your system. And it feels like all the little the tremors are starting to shake a part of me loose that I need to make it out. Something is calling me to the depths and I'm pretty sure that I let it keep taking me down. Nothing is ever on solid ground anymore and I feel it rumbling fading me out. Every drop of blood in my body was turning into an avalanche when it came around. Don't forget to breathe out though." -Greives "RX"
"Old soul, waiting my turn I know a few things, but I still got a lot to learn So I'm alright with a slow burn, slow burn, slow burn Mm, I'm alright with a slow burn" -Kacy Musgraves "Slow Burn"
"There's a side to the human personality that somehow senses that wherever the cosmic truth may lie, it doesn't lie in A, B, C, D. It lies somewhere in the mysterious, unknowable aspects of human thought and life experience. Man has always responded to it. Religion, mythology, allegories - it's always been one of the most responsive chords in man. With rationalism, modern man has tried to eliminate it, and successfully dealt some pretty jarring blows to religion. In a sense what's happening now with films and popular music is a reaction to the stifling limitations of rationalism." —Stanley Kubrick interviewed by William Kloman, New York Times
“People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.” ― Dalai Lama XIV Hmm.. this one made me think..
