Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it's the courage to continue that counts. Winston Churchill
Ya make me feel like I'm profound, haha, but I'm just delirious. "Contemplation seems to be about the only luxury that costs nothing." Dodie Smith, from my favorite book of all time, I Capture the Castle
You have enemies? Good, that means you have stood up for something, someone in your life. Winston Churchill
Interesting quote, but there's a whole slew of people who stood up for things and people really didn't need standing up for.
^ True that, and having enemies doesn't necessarily mean you stood up for anything. Maybe you were just an asshat? Sorry @iowawriter, not knocking you at all dude, just the idea behind the quote has a few holes in it. Actually I wouldn't have noticed if @Iain Aschendale didn't say what he said.
There is no inspirational quote that cannot be twisted into something stupid, stupidly dangerous, or dangerously stupid.
"Let me never make the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted." ~Mark Twain "No amount of evidence will ever persuade an idiot." ~Also Mark Twain.
"If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast." ~William Tecumseh Sherman "I hate the whole race. There is no believing a word they say, your professional poets, I mean there never existed a more worthless set than Byron and his friends for example." ~Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington
"I will crush this utterly. It will not be pleasant for victim or perpetrator nor vanquished nor victor. The equality of Mankind will be desperate suffering. The unity of Mankind will be hope and trust. The salvation of Humanity will be unity. The alternative will be extinction. The revelation will be that we can, in reality, achieve this even now." - The Tyrant
I can't find any solid sourcing for this, but in looking I stumbled across this which is even better:
I liked the part about "there is no effort without error and shortcoming." It reminds me of something Molly Ivins wrote about how the struggle is as important as the outcome: “The thing is this: You got to have fun while you're fightin' for freedom, 'cause you don't always win… And when you get through kickin’ ass and celebratin’ the joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was.”
To accompany any valid argument with a flat Earther: "Put that in your cosmology and smoke it." - Robert Sheckley 1971
“To collect photographs is to collect the world.” Susan Sontag, On Photography. I made it an epigraph to my album "Trees."
