If you had just picked it up and asked it that, it wouldn't have heard you. Aether is the ignition source. That's what wakes it up.

Pretty much. He's the only one who heard it, it won't talk to him again, (probably) and it won't talk to anyone else (Again, just as long as they don't touch it with their powers.). So it would look like he's going insane.
