Thank you for every one who helped with my dirty character problem, that was easily fixed once I learned how to. Now, I'm starting a new book, it's dark fantsy/horror/romance. I have to have areally hopeless, but sweet suitor for my M.C. everytime I try to make him all timid and hopeless, it makes him seem almost obnixously attachet(how I don't know). Everytime he gets the slightest bit less timid(best way to put it) he acts like a complete jerk, 1000% of the time. I'm normally very good at shaping characters, but I had to stop writing for a wile, and now I find my characterizations REALLY Weak, like sickiningly weak!!!
Remember all your characters, fantasy or otherwise, are human well ish! They are all going to have strengths and weaknesses. Am not sure what obnixously attachet means?
I think she means like a creepy stalker. I'm afraid I can't really help you, as I have some of the same problems myself, except to say that if you keep on writing you might find that something turns up to help you out.
If you're having lots of problems with characterization, sit down and write a bio for your character. Or an interview with your character. It may sound silly, but it helps. Some of the questions you could ask are: - What's your greatest fear? - What's your pet peeve? - What's your worst memory? - What's your happiest memory? - What do you like in a partner? - What's your motivation? - What's your most cherished possession? - What's your biggest regret? - Who do you feel closest to? - What do you like/dislike most about yourself? And then some questions about background... - Where were you born? - Where did you grow up? - How did your parents treat you? - What was your childhood like? - Do you have children? - Are you married? - How did you act at school? This generally helps you get to know your character so that you can have better control over them.
